It's hard to argue that boxing doesn't attract more than its fair share of idiots.

Maybe it has as many idiots as other sports, but the idiots in boxing are just more vocal, but either way considering the relatively small number of boxers, they get through an incredible amount of stupidity between them.

I'd also suggest that, whilst boxing obviously includes a huge amount of intelligence and skill in a sporting sense, most people who get into the sport are people who, in the first instance, enjoy hitting people which is not something that is generally equated with an awareness of and measured approach to the world generally.

So when I here people like Pacquiao and Fury saying the sorts of things they do I'm not really that surprised...because they are stupid.

From the sounds of it id say you are an idiot. The guy is from a devout catholic country. By default he doesnt agree with homosexuality. Who cares? I bet Paquiao has done more good in his life than you or any of the other wankers that slate him.

If you dont like boxing or boxers why dont you fuck off out of the boxing thread?

I like boxing but for a multiple world champion to say that homosexuals are worse than animals is not very Christian at all, living in a devout country!. He has set boxing back years. Abusing people by telling them to fuck off really helps too boxing fan

Unfortunately the world is full of bigots, it's also full of people actively looking to be offended by anything and everything.

All I focus on is what happens in the ring ( ooooooooo-eeeeeerrr! )

Blimey didn't actually see this response until now.

What a stupid load of old bilge.

Because I don't like boxing I shouldn't comment on the stupid things that boxers say? Yes that's a great way to approach life.

Being a Catholic doesn't give you carte blanche to say homophobic things, no matter how much they would want to argue otherwise. Presumably you also think it's okay for people who blow others up in the name of Islam because by default they don't like non-muslims? Tremendous argument there sonny-jim.

He's a homophobe and therefore stupid, no matter whether he defends that stance through his own thoughts or through his religion. And I don't care if he's done other 'good things' in the mean time. The list of people who do some good things but are otherwise dickheads is incredibly long, and the good things don't prevent the criticism of the moronic things.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you were hammered when you posted that. But at 8.01pm dude? Come on...you've got to have more drinking stamina than that.

Why do people insist on judging people from a different culture by your own cultural standards? I think its called ethnocentrism. Use your noggin a bit more and accept the fact that people are a product of their environment. If you grow up in one of the most devout Christian countries in the world. You are going to conform to that societies beliefs. Just as you conform to our societies beliefs. Show some maturity and a bit of intelligence.

Yes because poor old tribal Manny Paquiao has never left the Philippines and has only ever been subject to the views and forces of his homeland.

Come now...you're just making excuses for a homophobe.

Presumably you wouldn't be so forgiving in a female mutilation case in the UK?

Why shouldn't people judge others by our own cultural standards?

Stoning women to death for adultery or even for being victims of rape is wrong in my opinion. Just because my opinion is formed due to the society I grew up in and that it is an acceptable practice in other cultures doesn't change my opinion that it is wrong nor my right to express my opinion on the matter

Female genial mutilation being another example of something that is acceptable in other cultures - im still within my right to express my opinion that his is fundamentally wrong, am I not?

Again in my opinion stating that homosexuals are worse than animals is also wrong. The fact that it's an acceptable opinion in his home land doesn't affect my right to "judge" it an express my opinion that it's wrong

As for him being foolish - well the fact he based his statement on a claim that animals are better than humans because they never engage is homosexual acts is what makes gay humans worse than animals when some animals do in fact engage in homosexuals acts.... does kinda make what he said stupid (aside from the fact that his views are so outdated and foolish by the standards of the society he was happy to become a public figure in and make millions and millions in whilst apparantly still being immune to judgment from the cultural standards of that society)

I like him as a boxer, he was a great boxer and he provided much entertainment in several exciting fights over the years but I think he's rightfully being lambasted for his comments and I think they were very foolish

I had a patient from the Phillipines who'd had a total knee replacement before Xmas. I thought pacquaio would be a good topic of conversation to build a rapport with the patient and I was shocked to hear him say he disliked him and thought he was not a good person, I guess things like this explain why to an extent now.

Excuse the lengthy post - but my gf's little brother is homosexual and for the last 5 years has been in a terrible downward spiral of self destruction largely because their culture on their fathers side (jamaican) is culturally homophobic and public figures like manny making homophobic statements like this only add fuel to the fire and could have serious consequences for people who are struggling to accept their own sexuality.

We will have to agree to disagree then. I like him as a boxer also. But as soon as he opens his mouth I think hes a bit of a god fearing idiot. However, I accept him for what he is. Homophbia comes with the territory.

Nobody is saying he isn't a great boxer.

You're saying that, and his religion, excuses him being a twat.

It doesn't.

Like both fighters but cannot stand either camp! Eddie is a slimeball, Gallagher is a scumbag scallywag and Barry McGuigan is a slippery bastard, don't let the nice guy image fool you!

I favour Framptn after seeing how emancipated Quigg looked at the weigh in. I actualy worry for his health given how gaunt he looked. He's never fought under these weight rules ( no more than 10lb gained after official weigh in etc )
I think the scales will decide the winner here unfortunately.

Evenly matched as fighters, Frampton probably edges it overall. Both equally overrated though imo.

I think they only people overrating them are Sky tbh, this is never a pay per view.

And I agree, Quigg looked terrible at the weigh in, it's usually Frampton who struggles to make weight but he looked ok.

Usual Sky hype and will be interesting to see how many PPVS they sell.

I would rate them both as very good boxers but they won't be troubling the pound for pound lists

Looking forward to this, would have gone for Quigg a few months back, but Frampton is looking more confident for me
