Yeah I think the Ozil deal was purely about saving face. The powers that be at Arsenal must've decided that allowing their two most high-profile players to leave for free at the same time would've been too much of an embarrassment so they caved. Ironically it might yet turn out to be even more of an embarrassment when they eventually shift him to a Turkish club but are still paying 90% of his wages or something
It was all about saving face. They put themselves in such a poor position that their two star players were both ending their contracts at the same time. They did this all to themselves and it's fun as shit to watch. Especially because, whilst both talented, they weren't the players to drive the team forward. If anything Sanchez is the one you'd have wanted to keep cause at Arsenal he'd very likely get you a goal. Ozil? What does he do? What does he actually do for them? Oh it's great to watch and they're gonna take a loss on him big time and don't even have a Real Madrid and Bale situation where at least Bale won Real a champions league. Ozil has basically given 'em nothing
