If we are considering selling Toby and having Foyth & our 1st choice DM as CB cover it looks like we'll have a squad that is heavily reliant on not getting injuries throughout the course of a season. To me a Vertonghen, Sanchez, Foyth & Dier CB option throughout 50 odd games really comes up short
I expect we’ll also see quite a bit more of Davies at CB if this were the line up going into the season. He consistently plays there in a 3 for Wales and the indications of (an albeit CB stricken) pre-season suggest that it may become an option for us too.

If we sell Toby and don't replace then we could be seeing this happen. It would mean that KWP is, in Pochettinos eyes ready to take a step up to becoming an even more valuable squad member

Hopefully we will see more of KWP at RB, not LB. He's nowhere near as good there.

KWP does seem to get played at LB a fair old amount when playing for the senior team though. He's definitely a better right back but maybe Poch sees his diversity as a better solution to LB where we'd have Davies potentially playing backup CB and Rose who's been so stop/ start with injuries over the past 24 months

Yes but another top class CB pushes Foyth back again. I can assure you all he will be off if that is the case and we will still only have 4.

any way for on topic reasons I get the want for Martial/Zaha, the others I'm not so convinced of. Grealish I get if he's planned to be deployed deeper, if it's for an exclusive AM role it does not as Son and Moura are too similar for me.

I agree, Drop Dier back in my opinion and have Foyth continue to develop that should keep him happy. Grealish is deeper from all the games I watched of Villa trying to check Onomah out, he would very much suit 4-3-3 sitting alongside Eriksen and would compete with Winks. We need a another player for CM but in all honesty we could fit both Zaha and Martial in depending on how you perceive strength in depth and who they'd be competing with for a position. I know that ruffles a few people because their favourites would be on the bench but the strength in depth would be huge.

You think there is a chance we'd buy both.

How desperate are we to replace a player that hardly played last season?
Honestly pretty desperate as the back up drops away considerably and removes the option of three at the back. An injury to Jan and we are significantly worse off. Toby might not have played much after injury but he did at the start of the year.

Foyth looks a much better technical footballer than Dier IMO and I'd like to see him get a go at DM. I also think Dier is a better equipped CB than Foyth at the moment.
Either way if we don’t replace Toby then we are a verts injury away from being in real trouble. Definitely need another defender and a bloody good one if Toby leaves

Amazed that some people think Dier is an adequate CB to rely upon. Not to mention with Wanyama's dodgy knee Dier will be essentially are only DM. Foyth is totally unproven in the PL.

If Toby goes we absolutely need another top CB.

CCV isn't replacing Toby. Sanchez has replaced Toby. Foyth moves up and CCV can take Foyth's spot.

He'd still be replacing him as a squad member though. But as you said, it's all down to Poch and if he thinks Foyth & CCV have demonstrated enough should this be an option come 11 days time

Davies can play LCB although I'm not a huge fan. The thing is, to bring in an understudy who would do a better job than Davies or Foyth would cost a massive amount and I maintain that if Foyth was playing at Ajax people would be going nuts over him like they are with deLigt.

Davies played as a LCD for wales during and around there good run in the euros I don’t think poch will play 3 at the back that often anyway can’t say Davies has played there for us anytime I can remember. Don’t think foyth is ready for a run in our 1st team he is not ready in my opinion.

If we want to close in on city hold off the other big clubs in a race for top 4 I think we need more than what we have. Some experience especially if jan is injured for a period of time this season.
