That’s exactly what it felt like. It really looked like he initially went to go round the keeper then remembered what they’d worked on in training and tried to dive but he got the timing wrong and just sort of jumped up a bit
Straight out of the Sterling handbook, it’s almost like he’s cloning himself into him.

Hopefully anyone actually wanting to see a penalty given for that goal kick faff never complains about "game's gone" like scenarios in the future, as imo we'd have to be mental to want to see football matches decided in such a fashion.
It should have been given. It probably would have if it were us & justifiably so. At least I would hope it would be. It being a moment where someone was not paying attention to the game & making a mistake means nothing. Games are decided by players making mistakes all the time. Gabriel’s being a more ridiculous example means nothing. The game was live. A handball is a handball. That should have been a penalty.

I think it depends on the scenario, if there is a press on Gabriel from the kick then its 100% handball and a penalty, as there was nothing happening then I think its ok to ignore it.

If that's the type of football you want to see, then fair play to you, but I'd rather see games decided by something that actually makes sense. A penalty from such a ridiculous scenario serves nobody here, nor the sport.

I’d like to see the refs apply the rules of the game correctly, yes.

The laws also have this at the very beginning.

Referees should apply the Laws within the ‘spirit’ of the game to help produce fair and safe matches

It would have been an utterly ridiculous penalty but it should have been a penalty imo.
Whistle blew and for some unknown reason, the defender picked the ball up, only to put it down and pads it back to the keeper.
It should've been a pen for sheer fucking stupidity!

This is the Champions League, not the playground and if the players don't understand the bloody rules, that's on them.

Cringey AF. If players have to wear the same get up then a simple suit or club training gear. It's like a school outing otherwise.

I genuinely believe that was not a pen for Saka. The ref got it spot on. However had that happened in the premier League that pen would be given. Why are the officials not as strong in prem?
Should snap him up for the league, it was so refreshing. Thought he was really good and let us see a proper game tonight.

Arsenal will be kicking themselves if they don’t turn this around. Bayern look decent on paper but they’ve been pretty poor in the league and have several out of form and barely fit players.
Bayern’s problems are their CBs have no pace, neither does Kimmich at RB. Davis has pace but isn’t a good defender. In midfield they have no real DM who could help protect the defense and they have no playmaker. They’ve got talent up front but there’s not much interplay between them . I said earlier in the season that I didn’t think Kane would like it there much because the other players when they get in the final don’t want to pass the ball. They all hold onto the ball too long trying to get a shot away and the glory. A very dysfunctional team.

Declan Rice completely anonymous. £100m player should be running games like this.
I know I’m in a minority but I’ve never understood the hype about him. He runs around a lot and points a lot but other than that ??. Always saw him as bit of a headless chicken.
In fairness to him though I thought he was superb in the League Cup against us last season.
