The guy literally said the manager would have the sign off. And it’s being discussed with the target.

It would negligent for the club NOT to line up deals ready for the summer.

I'd obviously written that before reading the next comments about the manager...

Ndicka has obviously played a lot as the LCB in a back 3 but I'm pretty sure he's also covered as a LB in a back 4 previously too, though I'd have to double check that.

Not ideal due to his height but he's pretty mobile and certainly a lot quicker than Lenglet and Davies, so perhaps he could cover LB too?

Laporte and Ndicka would be a ridiculously good start to our summer business.

Man I really couldn’t see us managing to pull off signing Laporte.

But to be fair I suppose the one team in the league that probably still respects us is Man City since we always beat them, so maybe that has had an affect on him🤷‍♂️😂

It all feels a bit pipe-dreamy though - a bit like the Bastoni, Bremer hunt but you never know!

A bit surprised by Laporte possibly having interest but if @What Lies Beneath says its possible, I'm going to get my hopes up. I suspect that quite a few players are willing to sacrifice a single year if they see a promising project (players, Manager, DOF and infrastructure) where they get playing time and think they could make a massive difference in the team as long as there is a "get out of jail clause" inserted into the contract.

Laporte would be a Van Dijk-esque signing for us.

Totally transforms our defence.

Not getting my hopes up though.

I know it's not for me to worry about if it happens, but I do wonder how we'd keep the 2 of them happy without any European football. Unless we are still looking at 3 CB's due to our WB situation.

Probably by N'Dicka also being cover for Romero or Laporte shifts across.

And maybe get minutes as 2nd or 3rd choice at LB too. He's quick and a decent footballer.

Hats off would be a sensational move if we pull it off and DOF / Manager are on board.

Literally the 2 most ideal/semi reaslistic signings we could make for CB. Would literally transform our defence and give us options.

I will believe it when I see it but it is hard not to get excited.

Laporte would be an utterly fantastic signing. Really surprised we'd even have a chance.

One of the best ball-playing CBs in Europe and still hugely under-rated.

I did think they suited the 3 cb's system well. It would mean we are going for it clear out wise. I think the ability to sign them probably comes down to man management ability to keep them happy and in particular, the idea we're selling N'Dicka. It'd benefit him to ease in, given he's switching leagues.

From what Ive read on Laporte's options, they are quite limited as @What Lies Beneath mentioned. Barcelona were interested but are signing Inigo Martinez instead as he is cheaper. Juve dont have a lot of money and are interested in Pau Torres. Most other big teams dont actually need a LCB at the moment.

Laporte and Ndicka would be huge and would upgrade our backline significantly for very little outlay. (Wages and maybe a sign on fee at most for Ndicka)

Has there been any talks or media discussions about how much Laporte might cost?

For some reason I’ve got the figure of £40m in my head but I’m not sure if it’s something I saw in an article somewhere in the recent past or if I’ve just assumed that kind of price based on his age and importance to city against what they paid for him (£57m).

Football London had it at 'around £40m' the other day.

Would still be an extremely good deal for a 28 year old with massive PL experience and the ability to actually play the ball out from the back.

Laporte + Romero + Ndicka as understudy is about as good as we could possibly wish for with no EU income.

Really appreciate the update WLB!

my lack of faith in Levy and the board doing anything positive on the playing side means that until I see the official unveiling I assume such sensible moves won't happen.
This is probably not the place for you then Sid😎
I have to say it's not just the player news it's also the accompanying details about being in train for months that gives me a really warm feeling.
