Great news - Laporte and Romero as our first-choice centre back pairing with Ndicka/Lenglet and Dier as back up makes a lot of sense.

The guy literally said the manager would have the sign off. And it’s being discussed with the target.

It would negligent for the club NOT to line up deals ready for the summer.

Laporte has had some big absences with injuries. If we can keep him fit he'd be a good signing.

Surely a certain other club might show interest as when they lost Saliba there season fell about, that and a lack of 'winners'.

But the transfers are being 'discussed with the leading candidate'?

Also, we already have a recruitment team in place. It would be remiss of them to sit on their hands doing nothing until the DOF arrives. Especially with how much work needs to be done to strengthen the team.

Presumably that’s why we are happy to give a big contact to NDicka too. Two very good LCBs would sort that position right out.

my lack of faith in Levy and the board doing anything positive on the playing side means that until I see the official unveiling I assume such sensible moves won't happen.

For at least two of the positions - goalkeeper and left centre back - we know we need one regardless of the manager. Then if you start making shortlists I don’t actually reckon they end up being very long shortlists. By the time you’ve whittled down those players you can’t get due to the club they’re at/contract they’re in and the quality level we’d be hoping to look at. Our shortlist of managers all seem to play possession based and pressing football as well which again limits your shortlist. For LCB for example I think you end up looking at Pau Torres, Laporte, Lukeba, Ndicka, Guehi, Hincapie, Icancio, Hancko. Maybe a few more but I don’t think it’s a sprawling list of hundreds of names.

Having been caught on the back foot majorly and stupidly by the Paratici saga those at the club should at least have that short list ready to go and others should be sounding out agents. Now, the new manager and DoF should definitely have a say in this and maybe Slot would want Hancko and the DoF would want Ndicka but the club say Laporte is PL proven or Guehi is homegrown. I wouldn’t want any deal signed off without the manager but the idea that we shouldn’t have background processes going on this time is daft.

Feel a bit for Lenglet, because for how shit our defense has been, he's been pretty solid imo compared to others back there.

If we got N'dicka as well, wow that'd be the left side sorted for a few seasons I'd imagine! Fingers crossed.

I’d honestly be happy with Laporte OR N’dicka for LCB. If we got both I would be absolutely over the moon. Genuinely two of the best players we could realistically buy

I know it's not for me to worry about if it happens, but I do wonder how we'd keep the 2 of them happy without any European football. Unless we are still looking at 3 CB's due to our WB situation.
