Some really good insights on Pinto there @rossdapep and does provide a different perspective than merely looking at him as someone who's employed 'dinosaurs' like Mourinho and been involved in deals with Jorge Mendes.

Thanks, mate. It is important to see all different sides (the good and bad) before raging about stuff that you little about

The promotion of youth is something we can all get behind and under a manager who shares the same sentiment then it can certainly make Pinto's potential arrival very interesting indeed.

Stiedten for me please - but I don't understand the hate for Pinto?

While I completely understand looking at it quickly, he was hired by new Roma owners and while navigating their FFP issues and one a fantastic job. Mourinho has a very positive backing and history in Italy, and with time he has gotten them a cup and potential UCL qualification, so one would argue they are ahead of schedule on their trajectory surely.

You never know🤷🏼‍♂️ there is an unnamed candidate

Mateu Alemany who is Barcelona's DoF is heading to Aston Villa, or strongly linked to be whereas Cruyff is their Sporting Director.

Not particularly clued up on the politics of all things Barcelona but are we suggesting Cruyff equates to more of a Steidten whereas Alemany is more Spors/Pinto?

When did fans start getting so uptight who the DOF is? Let’s be honest majority of you have not got a clue who they are or how good a job they could do.

Pinto has done an excellent rebuild at Roma as they were in a mess. I don’t know much about him but asking a Roma fan they informed me he has done a good job.

but as a fan I don’t care which DOF they appoint. What I do care about is they appoint one quickly and have a plan
I care because our last one wanted us to play style of football that killed all enthusiasm for watching us play. That is the first thing that needs fixing above all else no more cowardly football.

Bove
Missori
Zalewski
Boer
Tahirovic
Faticanti (LOL)
Svilar

Other than Bove, who started, all of these on the bench for Roma's semi against Leverkusen. All under 23, most not older than 21.

Tahirovic and Zalewski started versus Bologna, and again the bench filled with players under 23;

Keramitsis
Volpato
Majchrzak
Falasca
Del Bello

Jose may be a bit of a dinosaur in terms of his style of football but it's clear to me that Roma have adopted a heavy approach to younger players and Jose has bought into that.

Of course, he still would want the Dybala, Wijnaldum signings because Jose needs experience but it's unfair to say that Pinto is heavily influenced by Mendes and prefers older players or defensive football because he clearly tries to fast-track youth players.

He's shown it at both Benfica and Roma and he came from that sphere of the game so he is going to be heavily pushing for it.

It really is fascinating watch people make up their minds about and form opinions on candidates they have very little information about.

Pinto is Portuguese and hired Mourinho so that means that he's a "dinosaur" who "only hires defensive managers". And of course the laziest trope of all... "He's in in the pocket of Mendes" with no evidence to back that up.

No further research needed, no additional context sought, just a rush to judgement.

I've even seen someone call him an old school DoF...he's 38!!!

Ultimately, fans have no idea what constitutes a good DoF. Most only base their opinions on signings when the remit is much much broader.

Pinto seems like he is adaptable to what his remit is. At Benfica where the focus is on youth development, he brought through the academy manager in Lage whereas at Roma where Italian fans don't have this thirst for "attractive football" that our fan base does, he brings in Mourinho who has won Roma a European trophy and on the verge of the final of another.
He's also found a balance in bringing through ready made players that Mourinho likes and young players that he can trust to use.

Most impressively, he's credited with creating a culture of ambition within the club which is what we sorely lack.

That's not enough evidence to say "bring him in" but people are rushing to judgement based on lazy preconceptions.

He's shown it at both Benfica and Roma and he came from that sphere of the game so he is going to be heavily pushing for it.

In the Roma squad, these 14 players have played more than 1,000 mins this season across all comps (Roma being in Europe providing them with a chance to use younger players if they wish):

Patricio (35)
Cristante (28)
Mancini (27)
Ibanez (24)
Smalling (33)
Pellegrini (26)
Abraham (25)
Zalewski (21)
Matic (34)
Dybala (29)
Spinazzola (30)
Celik (26)
El Shaarawy (30)
Belotti (29)

Average age: 28.35

Out of those 14 players who have played over 1,000 mins, only 2 of them are 24 and under.

The younger players you listed:

Bove (21) 746 mins
Missori (19) 91 mins
Boer (21) 0 mins
Tahirovic (20) 216 mins
Faticanti (18) 13 mins
Svilar (23) 90 mins
Keramitsis (18) 0 mins
Volpato (19) 224 mins
Majchrzak (18) 13 mins
Falasca (19) 0 mins
Del Bello (18) 0 mins

It's easy to put young players on the bench for PR, actually using them properly and developing a young team is a different matter. Bear in mind in Serie A you are allowed to name like 15 players on the bench and in Europe 12, so it's easy to put a few kids on there.

In terms of actually using younger players, Roma haven't really adoped that approach at all.

The general squad age for Roma has not been young and is backed up by the signings Pinto has made, which is pretty important considering we are going to need to recruit quite a lot of younger players.
