Totally agree, the apparent lack of due diligence on signing Tanguy is incredibly negligent. Fee of 60m and wages of 10m per annum, there should be FA we didn’t know about this guy before we signed him. Strange the contrast between the image of the club as hard nosed negotiators wringing the last ounce out every deal but spunk over 100m on a complete waster.
It's a really weird one because part of me thinks he's just another Ekotto who's a talented player that just doesn't enjoy the sport and finds it hard to get motivated, hence needing "friends" around him to make it easier. Having said that, Ekotto always performed on the pitch most of the time.
The other alternative is that he just doesn't like it here and wants to move, which is fine, but surely he must realise unless he's playing fairly well and making some sort of effort, no ones going to pay his wages let alone make a decent enough bid for him to get a move?
For example we all knew Kane wanted out last year but had 4 years left, so he went out and got the golden boot AND most assists in the season for a team that finished 7th in the league. There's no more dick waving he could have done to City than what he did, City just didn't want to pay what he's worth.
It's a bizarre and unfortunate situation because we are now desperate for player in the mould of a player we already have, and he's bloody world class when he's on his game.
Someone mentioned it recently but if he was motivated, fit and hungry, Tanguy is a better version on Dembele. He's got all what Moussa had but with that final pass or that final finish. We've seen glimpses and some really good performances but I doubt we'll ever see the final product now and it's such a shame as i've always backed him to turn it around.
Stop this mental health stuff. It’s insulting to people with mental health issues. He has himself said that he is lazy, said that it held him back when he was younger as he had a poor attitude lazed around in bed, didn’t care about diet or training, and that he only progressed in his career when he tried to improve on that somewhat as he was told he wouldn’t play. He said he would change. His previous coach in France said this about him also. As others have said he’s on 200k a week. There are no mysteries here.Every time there’s a challenge he wants to run away. I actually don’t resent him for that attitude because it’s his life. He doesn’t have a duty to be the best he can be but just to live however makes him feel alright. It‘s annoying as a Spurs fan but I don’t think it makes him a terrible person just a waste as a footballer. If it’s on anyone it’s on us but then I don’t even think that as his level of talent made the risk acceptable. No one had the benefit of hindsight and everyone wanted him in at the time.
There’s a line between caring about something and trying to create instances of that thing in order to demonstrate caring about it. Not saying that’s happening here but it’s prevalent in culture right now. Anyway, I’ve said enough.
Well, from my perspective I've only seen people suggesting it and simply hoping that support is available if it is indeed the case. That's a perfectly reasonable take, and I would think given your own experience you would rather echo that sentiment than be so dismissive and keen to shoot it down without actually knowing the man. These things are incredibly hard to spot and people should be encouraged to take support even if it turns out just to be a case of the blues.
People are wrong to jump to conclusions either way.
I’ve found through my work in advocacy, employability and support for young people (and often their families) that libraries can still be an invaluable resource for many people. It has been a long time since they were simply book repositories.
Ndombele is more talented than Kane? Hmm. You'll have to leave that one with me...
.
It’s an interesting one. Some go on about us not spending enough to bring in quality. All issues of the player aside, the key point is that his wages were too high from the start. That's always on the club never on any player.
Fair enough, I don't want to get into it either and will end it here. I feel like your heart is in the right place. I would just add that as somebody who has experienced mental health issues firsthand I do not in any way whatsoever feel offended or "cheapened" by the suggestion that Ndombele should seek support if available to him. I may be offended if people jumped to conclusions and started using supposed mental health issues as a reason to bash him, but I haven't actively observed that in this forum (not to say it hasn't happened). All I have actually observed is people saying along the lines of "you can't possibly be depressed on 200k p/w" as if real people with real issues have some kind of monopoly on suffering, which I do find quite perturbing.I’m not being dismissive. I don’t want to get into one about it and have already explained why I think it’s wrong to make those suggestions (and equally wrong to dismiss those reasons) so let’s leave it that point of departure if you don’t mind. Edit: peace love and all that and we’re both entitled to our views
There are many articles out there from the time we signed him, where he spoke at length in a very particular interview about his attitude himself, if people are genuinely curious.
I was going to lighten the tone par une commentaire sur la maniere francaise mais j’ai peur de la facon dont il sera recu ? (and my French is shite)
Looking at how hard working and cohesive our midfield is now, I just don’t see how he fits. I didn’t before, but it is even less now.
Nah I get it.
Kane has got to where he is, reached the level he has through hard work on the training ground & 100% application to become the best he can possibly be.
NDombele was blatantly born with a gift. The **** was probably doing a Billy Wingrove highlight reel before his umbilical chord was cut.
Sadly (for us/our club) all the talent in the world means bugger all unless you've got the desire to make it work for you.
I think his talent may well have worked for him, because I can't help but feel he knew from a young age that his talent would be what makes him/his family some good money.
Then along comes Doctor Tottenham to offer him not far off £1M per month & boom, job done. Sit back, fuck hard work and application after that's achieved. The hard work is already done.
But he did not know or did he?I don’t follow their personal lives, for all I knew he could be best mates with Mendy.
What if he has mental issue problems?I have no idea where this mental health stuff came from. More excuses for him. I agree it's insulting to those who do have issues as there is no basis for it.
Put your arm around him Nuno and show him a carrot. Two weeks while most everyone else is away. Two weeks to buckle down and work. Two weeks to show the new manager you’re willing to do what it takes. You do what you’re asked for those two weeks and work your tail off and you go into the lineup against Palace.
Gio won’t be available. Hojbjerg will have just played 3 games for Denmark.
