Are there rumours that Lo Celso and Romero are defying the club and league to play for Argentina?

"I just answered that! I just answered that! I think they understand the situation...".
Nuno most definitely did not answer the press question on whether some players might go off anyway. He protested a little too much.

He also said they would comply as any citizen would do, But they are not citizens here. Nor is it a criminal offence to visit these countries.
It would be just a contractual issue, and after Nuno allowed kane to have an extended quarantine holiday this season, without sanction, he has weakened his hand in dealing with this, Oops.

There are also qualifiers in october and november. They'd be fairly useless until xmas. I'd tell them to return in December, with as much wage loss as possible, transfer list Lo Celso and pull the plug on Romero's buy option.

Good on em!

This country is a joke with it's highly political red list.

These guys value playing for their countries over anything else football wise.

Highly political? Sorry but I very much disagree there. The truth is that spreading cases isn't gigantically important, given the high numbers already in England. Nor is there much danger from a new, more transmissible variant given the severe tailing off in growth of the HIT with further increases in the R0 - the Indian variant is essentially near the worst it can get in that regard. So the danger to us comes from a variant with a greater degree of vaccine escape. That's exactly what the Brazilian and South African variants show. They haven't become the dominant strain here because the Indian variant had a transmissibility advantage, but now we're approaching its current HIT that might change. Hence it being 100% correct to remain cautious of them for now, keep South American and Southern African countries on the Red List, and prevent a wave of infections being seeded here at least until we can e.g. see that there's no danger from it in a comparable country, or have evidence the booster program will offer sufficient protection. It's very unfortunate and I don't like having those restrictions, but it's worth it to reduce the risk of having to have further curtailments on domestic liberties.

That’s plainly not true…

Slight over reaction there.

Court of Arbitration for Sport has rejected La Liga's claim and says players must be released to South America.

Not sure what the club can really do in this situation. You can’t blame the players for wanting to play for their country. Can’t imagine either Romero or Lo Celso want to risk losing their place in the national team with a World Cup on the horizon.

Them playing Brazil this window certainly didn't help convince them to stay in England.

They could easily say that you are currently managing without us as not part of 1st team, so let us help our country it needs us.

In a somewhat positive apparently they've reached a compromise where they will be able to stay at the Spurs Lodge and be able to train on private pitches during their quarantine
