I think Winks really doesn't work well with Sissoko, at least not in a midfield two. They don't suit each other's games and while Sissoko can still run about and make tackles and be a nuisance, Winks' game suffers more clearly from it.

You get it sometimes. Occasionally players just can't play together. Lampard and Gerrard is probably the best example but look at Kane and Moura for an example closer to home.

Yep I’d like to see Winks in a midfield two with Ndombele and coached properly and see how he does then.

That's certainly the way it looks. Semi finals at best but no further with a defence like that.
