It doesn't matter how big you are, you will always end up with scenarios like this. Man Utd are one of the biggest clubs in the world. Ronaldo wanted to leave. Barca are arguably bigger, Neymar wanted to leave.

So you will always have situations such as these, in which case, the only way you win is to adequately replace. You cannot force a player to stay. Its detrimental both financially and on the field, as we are seeing now.
Absolutely. I agree.

It's part of why I advocate us selling players if they want to leave and a bigger club comes in. Would rather take the hit of losing a good player and be labelled a small club than end up with players who don't want to be here.

If you're looking at the number of assists it's not a wild claim. From the 2015/2016 season to the 2017/18 season (I've excluded last season because KDB missed most of it) Eriksen has 38 assists, David Silva 29 and KDB 43. So KDB is in front, but not massively and he's been playing in a better team.

Saying that I think most people would say that KDB is on another level these days. He's going to get Player of the year sooner or later.

He probably did once or twice (or even more, I'm not exactly counting) but that sort of proves your point. For me it wasn't often enough so it doesn't really stick in the mind and IMO we've had one or two similar over the past few years, we've had more than enough really really good footballers but collectively.........

Something else that I realised.........

When we capitulated 1-5 at Newcastle that time to surrender 2nd place, after the game Pochettino said something along the lines of he knows who was mentally weak and would be moving a number of players on, changing the mentality with new players, it's not good enough etc etc

Well, for whatever reason, that never happened and (I think) from the team that rolled over and had its belly tickled at Newcastle, a massive NINE players are still at the club, the only ones who have been moved on are Walker and Mason and I'm guessing neither left as a result of Pochettino's 'purge'.

Anyway, yeah, a number if players with a sort of cult status or whatever you want to call it, individually excellent but lacking something. I'd add that to the list of issues.
I think it's likely Poche was speaking in the heat of the moment then. I also think the way we finished the next season was a direct and very positive reaction.

Eriksen is always on the move I give him that, but no way is he working the hardest. Our wingbacks work very hard, Dele Alli and Lamela work very hard they make lots of sprints and press hard. Sissoko and Winks work extremely hard covering. The distance stat is just part of the overall picture.

Sprints dribble and yards covered combined (imo) is the marker.

Big chances created by the site above suggests last season Eriksen was 16th,behind David Luiz.

2017/18 he was 4th. Season before he was 2nd and season before that he was 4th and the season before that he was nowhere to be seen

I know on the internet we have to go OTT and try to get our voices heard but realistically he has been a very important player for us for 3 seasons without being the best in the league.

He now appears to be on the decline but likely through attitude and desire to be here ahead of declining as a player.

What if he is actually declining as a player though?

For comparison, Rooney had played 284 club games over the space of his first 9 years. Lots think that (probably along with lifestyle) may have contrIbuted to his slowing down as a player. I’m sure there’s others that are similar.

It probably is a lack of desire and we should of moved him on (and replaced him) last summer but I’m sure if we had there would have been an outcry.

"Since the start of 2013/14"

A very good example of why statistics are pointless without context tbh.

De Bruyne signed for city two seasons later than that (only playing PL 3 games for Chelsea in between).
Bernardo Silva (if that's who the other Silva is) only signed for City two seasons ago.

I'm not really a fan of "statistical football" to this sort of degree as it is too dependent on the players around the player in focus, but the data above is a redundant example. "per 90" stats tend to go a lot further towards a meaningful comparison.

I reckon he'll suffer from Paul Scholes syndrome, in such that he's not a big enough 'brand'. Same as Aguero - he's been on top form for years and has barely got near any recognition.

Agreed. Most statistics are pointless.

But they're there for a reason, and they're there to remind some people in here who apparently have short term memory like a Chimpanzee.

Wingbacks are ineffective, Alli form over last 12 months has been shit. Lamela runs around a lot, but I struggle to see what he really achieves. Winks is tidy, but creates fuck all. Sissoko needs help, as he alone cannot not hold the midfield together.

I know nothing of chimps but I am hung like a baboon.

An erect gorilla penis is 3cm (1.25 inches) long, the average chimp penis is 8cm (3.2 inches) and the average human penis is 13cm. But a Hamadryas baboon for example, has an erect penis that is five and half inches long. Seeing they are less then two thirds our size, I see what you mean.

Hung like a baboon. I dig it.
