A funny point, but the affinity with football is still mostly national in that we choose one team in a country.

Even still, they could create fans who follow the 'city teams' and consume even more product. Not a bad idea for them to run with to be fair.

Lots of the markets they are going into at the moment are still finding their feet so they can lure in supporters with the odd big-name player, and add that into the mix of the 'city'.

All a bit cheesy, but a good business idea imo.

Actually this is no different to what we have done - only on a much larger and more publicized scale. Spurs have a Super League Formula Racing team and as already pointed out ENIC owned large stakes in Rangers, AEK Athens, Slavia Prague, Basel and Vicenza.

If you look at Spain they do it similarly too with heavy stakes in Real Salt Lake. Real Madrid have, as well as football, very successful handball and basketball teams which ensures a crossover into other marketing revenue streams.

I certainly think that City are growing the right way by now having a team in Australia and the US but then again they have the financial power to do that. In fact it was one of the main reasons why Hull City chairman pushed to change the name - because it make it instantly easier to build overseas franchises.

I think it is a smart move from City as the marketing revenues will be immense whereas Real's approach would be better in countries where Football isnt the only money maker like the US or Canada.

Saints fan on Schneiderlin:

And I agree he's by far our best player yet looks to go for the least amount. If Lallana and Shaw are worth 25 and 30 mil then Morgan is worth at least 35. He's much more valuable than those two. Better player too.

Don't they realise that Lallana and Shaw have something in common that they don't share with Schneiderlin?

True, but did we not establish elsewhere (probably the Schneiderlin thread) that he qualifies as home grown?

Also I agree with the Saints fan 100%.

Possibly but that still doesn't mean you can add the English tax to the transfer.

I also agree that from what I saw of Southampton last year he was their most consistent performer.

I'm truly amazed reading those city fan's comments. Yeah it's absolutely nothing to so with the eye watering amount of money spent ans everything to do with the owners.

From RAWK,

Stewy17

He (Siggy) shouldn't have believed that because Spurs are Spurs and we're Liverpool.

I'm 30 and in my lifetime Spurs have won 4 trophies (All cups, and two of them league cups) and never finished above 3rd.

Spurs will be strong this year I think, decent manager and new signings had time to bed in but as a football club we're on a whole other level that Spurs will NEVER occupy. I'm sorry but any player who chooses Spurs over Liverpool is a complete dickhead motivated solely by dosh and the bright lights.

Know your place, Spurs.

ANOTHER POSTER REPLIED

So we're now a club of tradition, history and condescension too.

Stewy17

I don't see any condescension I just see statements of fact.

Personally I don't give a fuck if a player chooses another team over us, I can even see their point when it's Arsenal or Chelsea or United (even City now with their $$$) but I think it's fair to say moving to Spurs over Liverpool is always going to be a mistake.

Liverpool are a prestigious club with very few peers in world football, Spurs aren't even the biggest club in their own city.

If you'd like to counter that argument with a cognisant retort I'm all ears.

Stewy17 perfectly encapsulates the reason everyone hates Pool. I'm actually surprised he's kind of acknowledged Chelsea, UTD and Arsenal, as possibly bigger than the mighty Liverpool. I hope they have a terrible season. MOTHER FUCKERS

Not quite right with Real Madrid and RSL. They do have a partnership type agreement. Its slightly more serious, but nevertheless similar to what we have/had? with San Jose and Arsenal have with Colorado rapids. The similar names just happened as a result of RSL entering the league right at the height of the Europeanizing of club names. The full owner of RSL is a Utah native and has no stakes in Real Madrid. The City owners actually own Evil Empire FC (NYCFC) along with the Yankee owners.

You're right in that its not strict ownership but Real actually own and fund the RSL academy and training ground. I guess without know what is in the "cooperation agreement" we wont know for sure but i believe when viewed as a legal entity with assets, that would make RSL indebted to RM by a considerable margin.

I actually detest Liverpool more than any other club. Their constant sob stories and the feeling that the footballing world owes them a favour because they used to be good drive me nuts. Their fans are honestly the most pig headed, ignorant morons on gods green earth!

The one I work with needs to calm down as he truly believes they are going to win the league, so I laugh and tell him that they sold their player that created or scored 70% of their goals and replaced him with no one world class and he completely ignores it. No one I know likes them!
