Imagine how badly Jamie Carragher's reputation would have fared if someone at Liverpool had decided he was the man to build a high line defence around.

When I was watching the game on Saturday night with my cousin, someone lost the ball, think it was Lennon...and my cousin started cursing Dawson up and down....I said how was that Dawson's fault and he just replied, because it fucking is, he's shit.

I was like, but it wasn't him who passed Lennon the ball...and then he started rewinding the play back on my Sky...and Dawson had passed it about four passes before it arrived at Lennon...and he said there you go, that's what started it, the source was Dawson.

That's what the poor bloke is up against lol

That is one of the most pathetic things I've ever read. How on earth did you respond to such madness?

My opinion of him since the start of the season is that he's great to have around but really shouldn't be first choice in a possession based system using a high line.

I think he did pretty well in the start of the season, when the midfield pressing was somewhat in place. He had the courage and mentality to go toe to toe with attackers on the halfway line and force them to give away possession or play a backpass. The natural thing for a CB of the british mold would be to drop off (alone) continually which would have been pretty disastrous under those circumstanses.

Point being, I was impressed with how he managed to reinvent himself tactically.

But he hasn't covered himself in glory lately, needless to say. But he's the sort of guy we should support no matter what, because he's Spurs through and through, and as some blog said; he would lay down in traffic if there was any chance that it would prevent a goal against us.

But he's just one of the guys that the simpletons will give crap no matter what. A bit like Naughton, who has probably been the best performer in our back four the last four-five matches. The match threads are full of retarded Naughton rants. Just because.

He should have taken a top tip from Viz.

The thing he is what you want every player to be like and if your daughter brought home a footballer you would want it to be dawson.

However he looks so badly coached at the moment its insane, he looks terrible with the high line and its not even his pace thats the issue. He cant keep a line for shit but the rest in the defence aren't great either. He pushes up in to DM to much leaving a huge area behind him exposed or he is playing people on.

As said before we need Ledley to coach these players and use the old George Graham technique of using a rope to keep the defence in line

deserve more respect than he gets on here?

yes or no?

For me its a definite yes. Whilst he might not be the most cultured CB around and can be exposed against pace and trickery he does give his all and despite what some say, he does actually have plenty of good days that don't really get acknowledged...some will say ok etc when rating them and nothing more. A not so good day and its a complete and utter assassination.

I'm not saying the sun shines out of him, simply that he gets far too much stick when the guys performs competently enough for the most part and really cares and fights for the cause.

I'd replace many in this squad before Michael Dawson.

I'm dedicating this thread to A&C, as it was his post that gave me the courage and inspiration to post this lol..

I'm welling up. Your courage writing that has touched me.

You're right of course, Dawson is a brave, brave millionaire footballer who doesn't deserve to have his performances critiqued. Shame on all of us.

There's a huge difference between critique and the horrible bile some people spout about him. Plus you have the unbelievably unfair stuff like this:

No idea if BC has kids or not, but I'm willing to bet that if his daughter walked through the door with Dawson, his face would be

Too fucking right, why is he giving Donkey Dawson stick when it is clearly all that dimwit Lennon's fault.

Sorry, just voicing an opinion. Just think he takes a lot of abuse, I wasn't implying nobody should criticise, of course not. But like with most things, its how some make their point.

All I was pointing out is that he should be treated with a bit more respect but maybe I shouldn't of started a thread on such. Didn't want to annoy people over it.

Apologies.

Also earlier in the season Vertonghen made just as many mistakes but got away with the abuse Dawson did

I wonder how many keyboard warriors on here would have the bollocks to say to Dawsons face what they so casually type?

When Chelsea scored their first on Saturday, after Jans unforgiveable error, who was the only player making any attempt to retrieve the situation, and coming mere millimeteres from succeeding?

Lot of CB's have come and gone, yet nobody has ousted Dawson from his place in the team, says it all really. Maybe those who are so quick to have a go at Dawson should turn their attention to the people running the Club (Manager, Chairman, DOF) and ask why a better player has not been signed. Starting threads like "Who should be our Captain" and "Make Sandro Captain" are wasting their time quite frankly, until someone comes along with the ability and fitness levels to oust Dawson from the team he will be our Captain, and he deserves respect for that.

I believe you can all thank me for that. I did tell him I loved him, a few days before that wonderful performance. Imagine if I were able to give pep talks, we'd be on top of the league right now!
