deserve more respect than he gets on here?

yes or no?

For me its a definite yes. Whilst he might not be the most cultured CB around and can be exposed against pace and trickery he does give his all and despite what some say, he does actually have plenty of good days that don't really get acknowledged...some will say ok etc when rating them and nothing more. A not so good day and its a complete and utter assassination.

I'm not saying the sun shines out of him, simply that he gets far too much stick when the guys performs competently enough for the most part and really cares and fights for the cause.

I'd replace many in this squad before Michael Dawson.

I'm dedicating this thread to A&C, as it was his post that gave me the courage and inspiration to post this lol..

I'd go along with that mate. He may not be the best CB we have, but he certainly seems to have the mettle to at least have a go and fight for the club and shirt, which seems to be lacking elsewhere.

Absolutely. If the apparently more gifted in our squad put their body on the line like he does for this club, we might have performances, results, success and a team to be proud of.

@ the OP; stick a poll on here. Then we go round hunting down the naysayers (y)

He deserves respect because of his attitude and therefore deserves better than the 'fuck off you prick'etc that you hear from people on here. However that respect does not have to lead to thinking he is good enough for the top 4 or has the ability to take us forwards.

Not really. He may have passion but he is responsible for a lot of chances given away to the opposition. He also doesn't have a brain and can't understand why giving up possession so easily can be very detrimental

Yes but he IS rubbish

He clearly isn't rubbish though.

Ironic really that you're saying he deserves more respect but in the same breath labelling him as rubbish.

You don't think at very least he's of average ability for a CB in the Prem...with a good and professional attitude etc.

The only 2 times we ever actually managed to be in the top 4, Mr Dawson was a fundamental component of that

Going by that logic, surely Vertonghen, Walker and Sandro are all equally guilty.

I'd say he does deserve respect for his attitude, but nobody can be blamed for criticising his weaknesses if they want us to improve.

The other day I was thinking about why this is the worst I've ever felt about a Spurs team, despite witnessing us play through the 90s and early 2000s. I'd say it comes down to the attitude of the players. I felt more passionate about a team of poor, to mediocre players that tried their best for the club, than I do about a group of talented individuals that for the most part don't seem to give a solitary fuck between them.

Would I want a team of players with the passion (and the talent) of Dawson, or would I want a team of skilled footballers that show no enthusiasm for Spurs at all, but would invariably pick up more points over the course of a season? My head says the latter, but I'd certainly care considerably more about the former.

It's why VDV was so loved by Spurs fans. Perfect combination of ability and passion.

When you hear his interviews you think "go on my son, you give a fuck and I love you". Then after 10 mins watching him live it's more like "you are shite son, how can anybody be so slow".

In this day and age of multi millionaire footballers, anyone who is good enough to pull on our shirt in the first place, then clearly cares gets my respect.

Dawson has been found wanting this season and at times really bad but of all the centre backs at the club he is the only one we can rely on.
Kaboul and Vlad are always injured while verts only plays well when he fancies it so it's no wonder our defence is shit
The centre back position at the club has been a problem for a long while now there is never continuity or cohesion cos someone is always injured it seems.
I don't hold out any hope that whoever comes in will be able to sort it as we need 2/3 replacements and Levy won't buy that quite literally so Dawson it is then.

My opinion of him since the start of the season is that he's great to have around but really shouldn't be first choice in a possession based system using a high line.

No.
Ability is the foundation of respect and he isn't one of our best players.
He will get more of that from players and fans alike at a club whose ambitions aren't ours.

Yes he does deserve respect but he is the source of criticism and knee jerk reactions because he's such an easy scapegoat due to his limited ability, he gets far too much stick on here and by Spurs in general.
