Also with Poch was his absolute refusal to accept alternative to moon on a stick signings

Frankie de Jong was never interested in signing for us - so pick an alternative
Complete bullshit narrative.

You realize that was the Summer we tried to buy Jack Grealish, who was in the Championship...

So under this narrative Poch's only targets were De Jong & Grealish... that makes absolutely no sense.

How much is the board reluctance to going for Poch lie in the fear he would hold leverage over them since it would be an admission that the four years since he left was wasted

Mike McGrath reporting we’re leading the race for Maddison this summer. Adds more fuel to the idea they already know who their man is and are starting to plan. No chance we’re seriously looking at a ca. £50mil signing without knowing if the manager is on board. Especially without a DoF in place
Or they are buying players regardless and still showing they have no plan.

Disagree. Loads of the ITKs on here have confirmed that he was difficult regarding transfer targets and rejected the likes of Maddison, Tielemans etc... One of the issue's with Poch is that he doesn't like working with a DOF, and tbh I feel a DOF is pretty essential nowadays.

I think we'll regret not going for Enrique, we need a likeable character like Jol/Poch to charm the fan base after what we've had to put up with recently.

I heard this a lot that he is a likeable character but he always looks miserable lacking personality everytime I've seen/heard him

Enrique to Chelsea seems to be picking up speed. Gérard Romero who I think is quite good for spanish/barca related stuff is saying it too now.

From what I've seen of Boehley I just can't see him going for a 35 year old manager in Nagglesman.

Have you learnt nothing in the last 20 years? It won't be that much with 1 year left anyway.
There was me wishfully thinking Levy may have learned some lessons from how successfully last summer went buying targets that didn’t suit his manager… let’s hope it’s someone who can harness him them. Would be exciting if so!

not a bad thing on this occasion though as I think he is probably the most under rated player in the league at the moment.
It never is a bad thing until the new man comes in and wanted something different.

That's the point. It's not about the quality of the player, it's about the fit and whether the man that has to integrate them thinks it's right for the team he's trying to assemble, be that a manager or a DOF who is building a squad and will appoint a manager to fit that squad.

The facts are these right now.....We have a lame duck as a DOF and no manager in place at all. If the reports are true who is making this decision?

Personally, would prefer Nagelsmann to Slot. If Chelsea do get Enrique, then we must have a good chance.

Not disregarding Slot's achievements, but the Dutch league seems far inferior to Bundesliga, plus Ajax and PSV are struggling. I think he needs another season or two of similar performance.
It’s not really about that’ll though is it? For me it’s about the difference they make to a team rather than where they did it. Slots history is of rapidly improving teams and turning them into winners whilst playing an attractive, aggressive style of play in the process. Besides, I’d argue he’s achieved more than Nagelsmann had before Bayern. And anything that Nagelsmann did at Bayern (or any manager at Bayern or PSG) that wasn’t in the champions league isn’t really worth taking note of imo.

Scott looks a tremendous talent indeed but actually think we are well stocked middle of the park and do think Bissouma is primed for a redemption under new management and become a mainstay in the middle next to Bentancur.

It's further forward, if it's a 4231, that we desperately need creativity and craft - Maddison fits that remit down to a tee and underlined by being HG and massively upgrades our set piece threat.

Bringing it back on point for a new manager, I think that suits much better under Nagelsmann in a 4231 as opposed to Slot's 433 but either way, Maddison is a player we really don't have replicated currently in the side.
I agree that tactics and manager are key, for what its worth i'd probably expect JN to go back to a 3 at the back formation if he came as I think he just prefers it. Even when he played 4231 he would often get one of his FB's to tuck in like a 3rd defender whilst the other pushed up resulting in an odd asymmetrical formation. Slot does like a 433 but he also plays a 4231 and on occasion 4141. Gallardo also likes a 433 although he does use a lot of different formations. I find Scotts versatility and ability on the ball a very attractive prospect when looking at all three of those managers, we don't really have anyone like him, he reminds me of a young De Jong. I honestly feel we would be idiots to not get him and think this is likely our only chance. Plus he's a Spurs fan.

Anyway, as mentioned, I don't see Maddison coming here anyway. That is assuming that Newcastle want him. Ether way, it would be nice if we could sort out the manager before buying too many players but I do think buying a young versatile talent like Scott really doesn't have a downside because he would fit into pretty much any tactic we play.

Indeed going into the final year of his contract, levy will certainly smell the blood.

So will everyone else, and they won't fuck about for forever and a day trying to shave little bits off the price.

Best case - the entire player scouting and recruiting department that Paratici hired and managed, moving forward with the plan they have all been working towards to refresh the playing squad on a budget in a fresh attacking style that matches all of our new managerial candidates.

Worst case - Maddison’s agent called Daniel on the phone and said there might be a bargain available, and he thought there needed to be a positive Spurs story in the press.

Didn’t stop us buying Porro for Conte knowing he was soon to be out the door. As I posted in the ‘Rebuild’ thread, if true, it should be astonishing that we’re targeting players with no DoF nor manager/coach. Should be astonishing but is quite possibly happening with Levy in charge.

Pretty well? They had a decent spell at the right time, but then again so did Conte.

United have had a lot more than one abject performance under Ten Hag, including a seven goal thrashing. But Conte has gone and this really is a fuck-all and pointless argument about degrees of this and that now, but we can't help ourselves I suppose.

It's over and we await the crowning of the next poor bugger :D
Ten Hag gets quoted a lot on here as a success story, but the truth is they spent an absolute ton of money and fall apart without Casemeiro and Eriksen.

United have an absolute top class goalkeeper, 2 very good centre backs, 2 excellent central midfielders and Rashford in the form of his life. They are a Rashford injury away from failure.

Newcastle dismantled them last week and Liverpool hammered them 7-0, I'm more surprised people aren't talking about him getting the sack than discussing a 'success story'.

Won a cup, in the FA Cup-semis and Europa quarters, beating Barca along the way, and are currently clear favourites alongside Newcastle to finish in the top 4.

They've spent a lot of money, overpaid for some players, and are far from the finished article, but that's still definitely a success story for his first season IMO. I would've happily taken a couple of thrashings this season to be in the position they're in right now.

They were an absolute joke last season with Rashford looking completely washed up lest we forget.

Luis Enrique’s representatives sent Chelsea a full PowerPoint presentation from him outlining every detail about his vision and his plans for each individual player.

And aparantly PSG have approached JN to replace Galtier
