People like yourself have a massive gross misunderstanding of the situation and it shows, some real ignorant comments in here. ?‍♀️

Messi made 30% of their total profit in the last 3 years merely by himself he brought in something like €600m Euros for the club in that period so he's well worth the contract he was given and that £1m per week wage was just a drop in the ocean of what Barca were said to afford.

Besides all that it's not down to Messi to handle Barcelona's finances, if the club are handing out such contracts to players you'd like to think that the club would be financially secure and able to run self sustainably and identify such risks in the market, they didn't because the previous board were negligent and incompetent beyond belief, that has nothing to do with Messi.

FCB’s pre-tax profits for the past 3 years have been: €20m, €17m, and (-€117m)…

What am I missing here?

You are generally so clueless it's actually painful reading your posts.

If Barca sold Messi it would leave them up shits creek because of the money he generates for them. Even if they received a transfer fee of say £100m it still wouldn't cover the yearly incomings that Messi makes for the club.

Him leaving now puts them in a worse position, they are truly fucked for the forsesbale future.

This is really not difficult to understand. You don't have to be a 'Messi stan' to look this up, it's all over the Internet.

Sorry to cause you pain. I guess I find it hard to empathise with Messi in this situation and can't be bothered to do the reading to try to get there. He's rich. He could play for free if he was inclined to.

Sorry if even this causes further pain.

Context probably, I mean that's probably the entire reason why Barca are here and we are having this discussion, they have managed their finances incredibly poorly.

I guess the money has gone on things like player wages (Griezeman £800k a week) and transfer fees (they've blown £940m in 5 years for example) It probably suggests that they were banking on Messi's income to keep the club afloat

So there is law saying contracts must be 50% of previous contract. That's simple to explain.

Being completely straight forward, can someone link to how Messi alone is generating that much profit for Barca?

So Barca signed sponsorship deals with clauses in them that they drop in value if he leaves?

The rest in tickets and shirts. Barca were huge before him, they would have been after him.

So Messi became Barcelona in almost every respect, built themselves on him. The more you read it's just toxic from every level.

He's a human. It was always going to end this way. He was a serious injury away from bringing down the whole club, never mind just leaving.

Oh I don’t dispute that they’ve managed their finances appallingly, but you have to ask how much of their ludicrous spending (both transfer fees and payroll) was to keep Messi happy.

I would guess not an insignificant amount.

So a smarter way for Barca to contract him would have been much lower wages with massive massive loyalty bonuses? Probably timed for when sponsorship deals were being renewed?

This is basically my argument when I'm not being belligerent and thick-headed

So if all their sponsorships are about to be cut by 50% and they were already screwed even with the big deals at max output...Barca are being liquidated right? They're inescapably fucked?

Given how the loggerheads developed between Messi and the Bartomeu board with the tension that existed ever since the Neymar sale that just got steadily worse and worse, I really wouldn't be confident in saying that Messi wanted Coutinho, Dembele, Griezmann and the other insanely expensive signings.

I might be completely wrong in that, but the Bartomeu board certainly didn't include Messi in decision-making.

PSG. And yeah he's making more money out of PSG because he ran his contract down and the money they'd have had to throw at Barca to buy him he's taking as salary.

Didn't realise we had so many Messi stans here.

Let's be clear. Messi is not to blame for Barca messing up their finances. That's on their executives.

Messi is to blame for running his contract down, leaving Barca no ability to profit, even modestly from his sale. That's a choice he made. I called him Sol Campbell. That's obviously hyperbolic and yeah, uncalled for. But he's certainly been ruthless in looking after himself in this scenario.

This is just nonsense but you are entitled to your own opinion

The whole point is, he couldn’t play for Barca for free.

He couldn’t even play for them if he paid them.

Even if he paid them his entire proposed salary it would still be over the league's limit for wages.

That's how fucked they are.
