Steven Caulker, Tottenham/Swansea

WHAT A CAULKER ... Steven has the bottle
I'VE got big plans for this boy when he returns from his loan spell at Swansea in the summer.
A lot of people probably don't even realise he's a Spurs player because he's been away at Yeovil, Bristol City and now Swansea in the last few years.

We're not short of central defenders at the moment but Steven doesn't turn 20 until next week and we've had great reports on his progress.

He injured a knee a month after moving to Wales and that kept him out for the best part of three months.

But it's no coincidence that Swansea have not conceded a goal in three games since his return.

That doesn't sound like Harry's thinking of England to me

England is just a dead end job, he would be silly to take it IMO. As for Caulker, he has a hell of competition at the moment but King is coming to the end of his contract and career and Gallas in the last year of his contract, so Caulker is the future, hopefully he won't just make appearances in cup games.

never thought Harry was a realistic candidate for the England job, too much baggage and he is too smart to take it.

Gallas signed a 2 year contract in the summer btw

Encouraging to hear from Harry though.

I have never thought that Harry is a likely choice for England manager
and have said so frequently.
But this is not really evidence .
He's hardly likely to say
'Pity I'm not staying or I would have had big plans for this boy' is he?
He's Totttenham manager until the day he leaves, but I don't think he will be leaving us for England.
The sack or retirement through old age or ill health
are the front runners for me.

A haiku, my friend
has a definite pattern,
and shape, like this one.

I gave copies as Xmas present to friends and family, of my book
'Extremely Advanced Haiku for football bloggers and fansites'

'Haiku for Beginners' indeed.

I really believe Caulker can carry on the mantle. From Garry Mabbutt to Sol Campbell to Ledley King to Steven Caulker.

I honestly believe it'd be great to have Caulker in the squad now whilst King's still able to play. Would be an awesome tutor for him.

the last player in the list is Jordan Rhodes and I think he'd be well worth a look. Not sure how much of Harry's column is ghost written but I'd like to think he seriously is interested in Rhodes. Another I'd like to see in the Prem is Gary Hooper, currently at Celtic - he just seems to keep scoring goals!

I was quite suprised someone in the lower half of the Premier League haven't attempted to sign him. Scored a lot of goals for Scun-thorpe and Celtic in recent seasons.

He's young, and has the potential.

He is alson a well grounded person, and really wants to make it at Spurs, loves the club, is a fan and if reaches that level of potential could be unreal.

Very highly thought of within the club, he had the chance to stay at Spurs this season and get given more of a chance (Euro's etc), but between club and himself felt it was better to go out to loan at a prem club. Gutted about his injury though.

Here's hoping Caulks becomes the player that I'd hoped Troy A-H was going to be.
Caulks certainly has been getting the reviews whilst on loan these past few seasons.
Fingers crossed.
He wouldn't be the first "next best thing" to slowly slip from sight but he does seem to have something about him. So far, he's been ticking all the right boxes.

Exactly what I was thinking before I got to your conclusion, too :hump:

You are in error.
Mabbs and Ledley had a mantle.
SCum Bumble had a girdle
