Why is their valuation the proper one? He's got 12 months left on his contract.
So by that Kane should be a cut price deal? Its what the selling club deem suffice not the buying club. Kane isn't worth £100m theoretically to the rest of the world but he is to us.

So if they want £40m and thats their price. You are going to have to pay that price unfortunately. Am not saying don't barter with clubs but sometimes there isn't room for bargaining with clubs.

True, but here there definitely is room to barter. They're not rich enough to just throw 30m, or whatever, in the toilet to prove a point. We are.

I’m confident this deal gets done, because to an extent all three parties want it done (or so it seems). But for as long as ourselves, Utd and Chelsea haven’t yet bought a new goalkeeper, Brentford are in a strong position. If it gets down to just us still with an interest and/or need in the position then Brentford’s position will be weaker. They don’t want to be left with a big asset who is surplus to requirements and who will leave for zero next summer. However, right now they can hold firm on the basis that we could still face competition for Raya. If that competition is removed then Brentford will probably soften their stance.

My rule of thumb was always that a player in the final year of his contract was worth about 1/3 of his 'long contract' value. Then along came Man City and started paying over the odds and some other clubs followed suit and that rose to about 1/2

You can see this in our buys of Bissouma (top 5 premier League midfielder then worth perhaps 50-60 million - bought for 25-30 with 1 year) and Holberg (probably a 30m player bought for 15 ish)

So if Raya is worth £60m (which is a lot for a keeper, even in these days of elite keepers becoming expensive) then £30m would be about fair. I'm sure that Brentford's £40m is just a starting position and they'll settle for circa £30m. The player has made it clear that he wants to come and they will already be thinking about how to spend their windfall so they won't have an interest in dragging it out until deadline day and then having to panic

I'm guessing it'll be done within a couple of weeks

I'm not a levy fan , nor a fan of his constant haggling over players, esp after the Grealish debacle, but it's proper order that we negotiate on this fee. Guy looks like he wants us, we want him and Brentford are willing to sell. Only 12 months left on contract, so rightfully we are entitled to look for a few quid off the asking price. Reckon it will get done for somewhere between 25-30M + add-ons, with possibly a loan thrown in to sweeten the deal.

I think 40m is a good price. He's in his prime, he's home grown, has PL experience, he's a massive upgrade. Are we going to find another keeper/player that ticks all these boxes?

It’s more that Brentford never passed short. It was always twatted long to Toney (him and Toney had one of the highest pass combinations in the league between them) or long out to their fullbacks in high wide positions. So his stats are massively effected by that.
I fail to see why accurately passing the ball to a forward up in their final third or out to a full back high and wide is seen as worse that f**king around with the ball in our final third playing kamikazi macho football. There must be a statistic somewhere for how many goals are conceding by teams indulging in this latest football fad.

Only one I think this is reasonable for is Maddison cause we've got legit competition.
Yes, inclined to agree.. but even then, is he the only option? we tend to get fixated on a few players and get ourselves worked up and end up thinking they are must have. Myself included… but the club will, rightly, deal in lists and options. They’ll have alternatives to Maddison.
