I hope we cuck them for Celik, Hojbjerg and Josh King.
Everton threaten to disrupt Tottenham Hotspur deal for Turkey full back Zeki Celik
Tottenham Hotspur face competition from Everton for another of José Mourinho’s preferred summer recruits: the Turkey full back Zeki Celik. The Times understands that the Merseyside club have entered discussions with Lille about signing the 23-year-old, who is valued by the Ligue 1 side at €20 million (about £18 million).
Celik has spent two seasons as Lille’s starting right back, during which the club finished second and then fourth in France’s top tier. Powerful in defensive duels and a good provider of crosses, he has been earmarked by Mourinho as a component of the “better, more balanced squad” he is attempting to put together in this transfer window.
The former Istanbulspor defender would provide Mourinho with a second specialist option at right back, a position that was important in the tactical shape he deployed upon taking over at Tottenham in November. Alternatively, Celik’s purchase could allow Tottenham to explore the sale of Serge Aurier to AC Milan.
Although Aurier, 27, played more Premier League minutes than any Tottenham player except Toby Alderweireld last season, his unpredictability in defensive areas contributed to the club’s disappointing sixth-place finish. With two years remaining on Aurier’s contract, Milan have suggested that a fee of €15 million would represent fair value for the former Paris Saint-Germain defender.
