We're not far off opening 'properly' so now would be a good time to stop posting shithouse sources that fly against what we're trying to achieve here or make bollocksy posts hinting at interest in a player without naming the source.

Our preferences on this are well enough known now and the thought of locking this thread is making me moist. You don't want to give me the excuse i'm looking for now do you :D

Eze signs new deal so can forget about that one for now.

Was inevitable after Hodgson’s remarks. I’m sure he will have a release clause that we will no doubt be aware of but realistically we probably weren’t particularly interested in the first place.

With the acquisition of Maddison, emergence of Sarr and Bissouma and the return of Bentancur, I honestly never saw Eze as a realistic option if I'm completely honest. I know we should aim to have a squad of players of the highest calibre possible, but I still couldn't envisage buying Eze as a squad player.

I used to get worked up over quotes like this but its increasingly obvious that journalists say this stuff just for clicks, knowing full well that angry spurs fans will wade in. Im sure Ornstein has no idea about our budgets and whats available.

of course its likely another click-baiting article but still it is unlikely for us to spend big in the winter window

The Gift Orban hype train seems to have well and truly died. Think he has scored 2 goals in his last 15 games or so and starts most games on the bench now.
Orban played tonight and scored a hatrick, I didn’t watch so don’t know how he’s doing generally.

‘not so much' is how much anyway? based on today's standard in the premier league, with teams like chelsea and arsenal spending crazy amount of money, if you have something around 50m to spend in winter, it is really not so much. anything between 50m-100m is not so much by that standard.

seriously, it's not always about money alone. sometimes you need to be smart and creative, especially in winter when you have very limited time and options to make the moves. deals like loan and money + players should be considered. not just straight cash deal. remember how we got kulu and bentancur? it turned out not bad at all. we may not have paratici anymore (?) but we have those 2 guys from aston villa and they had pretty good records in the past. so i still have total confidence and trust in those guys and ange.

I would imagine if it came from Spurs it would be Donna , they’re hardly gonna say “we’ve got the Kane money burning a hole in our pocket and can’t wait for January “

Yeah, it's obvious really.
Everyone knows we're desperate for a CB at least and a lot of people think the Kane money is burning a hole in our pocket.
Now, we're suddenly "skint".

We've made this play before, it's just a (rather obvious) plot to try to stop others putting ridiculous prices on targets imo.
Even if we did spend all of the Kane money already, you can't tell me that a club of our size and with the stadium we've got raking in money, that we don't have a decent budget for every window.

I'm not expecting us to be spending stupid amounts of money like some clubs do because that's not how we operate but there's no chance we're looking down the back of the sofa for loose change.

So, in light of recent injuries, we need to focus in adding a left footed CB. Robert Renan could be someone interesting for that role. Especially because technically gifted CBs can really flourish under Ange's style of football and Robert Renan is one of the best products Brazil produced since Aldair or Thiago Silva, better than Marquinhos or Gabriel Magalhães.

He is currently in the Zenit squad, so can become a little bit pricey. But he is worth the investment.

The fact that he moved to Russia less than a year ago in the middle of their war against Ukraine is one of many reasons I'd be averse to signing him.
IMO, it says a lot about his priorities and mentality.

He went to a league that’s at the same, or even lower, sporting level, in a country that’s committing war crimes on a daily basis.
Instead of being patient and waiting for a better opportunity in a top 5 league he went for the money with little to no regard for his career down the road while showing a severe lack of ambition or a moral compass.

I don’t think the injuries will affect the business we do in the window. The club has never operated on a short term mindset like that.

I suspect we’ll have targets in mind that aren’t related to the injuries, and we’ll pursue them if and only if we can get them for a reasonable price. That’s how we operate, it’s how we’ve always operated. Anyone expecting something else is setting themselves up for disappointment.

We are at the start of our rebuild process, we’ve exceeded all expectations, but I don’t think we are suddenly going to see a splurge, or early incomings just because we are close to top of the league/top 4/whatever.

We know we want a LCB and we know we wanted the lad from Bournemouth, but who knows if he’s still what the recruitment team want.

Maybe he was poor as fuck and wanted a better life for him, and his family, and didn't want to risk waiting for a better offer down the road.
It's easy for 1st worlders, who don't understand true poverty, to take the high road.
Regarding war crimes, I don't think any one in the West should talk.
