What's new

When did you first become disillusioned with AVB?

Some may not agree with me but I reckon AVB was found out a long time ago.

For me it was the 1/4 final against Basle last season when I first got to thinking that he genuinely hadn't got a clue. We were left chasing shadows by a well drilled but very ordinary Swiss team. Like most I was hopeful and exited for this season with all the new faces but I always had a lingering feeling that he would be found out badly again.

Not nice to see him lose his job, but it was best for all involved.

I dunno about 'know the truth' I still think there's a very good football manager there, just some bat-shit crazy decisions that may or may not be down to arrogance.. I dunno...

I think I first thought 'oh Andre, you'd better be able to back that up now, or ya won't have long left' was when he turned on the WHL fans.. The next game they proved him wrong, and the team was lucky to win on penalties, I figured he wouldn't have long after that.

The same basel team that beat the chavs home and away?

I honestly thought we were going to turn it around under him.

When the crow bones hit the tiled floor the way they did - the exact same night i spotted a hawk fly in three circles under a crescent moon.

Bad omens, man.

I actually wanted Rodgers, believe it or not. That said, I was still happy with the AVB appointment. I thought we had a manager that would stick around for the next ten years and really build something.

Anyhow, to answer your question, early this season, I got very worried with his tactics (or lack thereof). The slowness of our play and what seemed to be his rigid formation that allowed the players very little creative freedom. I could go on, but agree with THOWIG that this should be left alone for now.

I always had my doubts but backed the team nevertheless, the opening 10 games of last season i thought he wasnt upto it, but then he changed it back to the more 442 - 4411 formation & it worked. This season he seems to have gone back to the formation that failed on so many occasions last year before Bale came alive - hence his perserverence has cost him his job. The shape & tactics just did not suit Premier League football, it was far too predictable & everytime we lost the ball we were in trouble, especially against quality opposition.

Enough of this shite now please.

Elaborate?

Don't expect everyone to agree with my opinion, far from it, but how is this shite. Was he not found out in your opinion, was Levy wrong?

Yesterday. I was pro AVB. I still believe things could have been different had he got moutinho last year.

However yesterday was the realisation. It was when Paulinho was sent off. AVB was visibly broken then. I feel sorry for AVB, he has his faults but I genuinely believe he's a class guy. But yesterday was clearly the end and I think AVB knew it and as has been said elsewhere, perhaps he too is feeling relieved now its all over.

Still think he would have been the best manager to see us through the season. We'll never get anyone better than him at this time of year.

It took me a long time to be close to convinced. Last year I mentioned quite often at various stages that we seemed to be no better off with him than we were with Harry and seemed to actually create less opportunites. I backed him in the summer though because I thought he had (just) earned a shot with a new 100m war chest. I expected more, a lot more.

I'm not too sure if he's all that good, but maybe his age is what was his downfall, his lack of genuine experience and complete lack of ability to accept criticism and learn from mistakes.

I had my suspicions when he was coaching Academica but I didn't want to say anything.

I think what he means is, this thread smacks of "Look at me, I knew he was shit all along and now I've been proved right. Aren't I great"

Just like the people who've come on to the site today just to bump posts they made ages ago saying they didn't want AVB etc.

Maybe they heard about the 'holiday of a lifetime' prize that was on offer for the best 'after the event' prediction.
