SA_Gunner is going to do a deep analysis of us tonight, should be a good read and no doubt by the end of it we will all benefit of the great footballing knowledge he has..............in South Africa. Been promoted to a moderator on there too. Thought you'd have to be over 18 to be a mod, but there you are.

  • SA_Gunner - Having a proper look at Sp**s again tonight. You can see where their strengths come from, they entice the press and use that to gain central access. Failing which they will look to go more direct with with longer passes either down the halfspaces, or over the opposition. Because of their narrow shape in their build up phase, they naturally pull Palace narrow and create space out wide, but they also concede spaces out wide as well. A cat and mouse game in those areas for whoever has the ball. Clever from Ange, he creates that possible vulnerability in transition, to keep the game open and flowing. Should be an interesting watch tonight, the team who scores first here will dictate this game I feel.
  • Palace have started really well, have had the better chances. Vicario looks solid in goal though.
  • Title favourites dominating field tilt but no goal so far
  • Not hard man Romero faking a face injury
  • Sp**s play with the likeability of Chelsea, diving ****s...but with the recent trophy cabinet of Brentford ffs, imagine supporting such vile bunch of players (Says the fan of Jesus, Martinelli and Saka who carry on like this every game)
  • SA_Gunner - Sp**s arent title favourites man, not with this type of ball. Its far too chaotic. You can see where Arteta was coming from, going with the same high pressing strategy at the Emirates. If you limit Sp**s' build up play and ability to get the out ball, you've got them. I've noticed that Vicario doesnt go long much, and that could be a limitation to his game (I stand corrected on this one). Teams are thus happy to push their lines up and pressure them as a result. This could also be a ploy from Ange, to bring them up to create space. I will say though that Sp**s' ability to recover ground and hunt the ball back is great. Its very energy sapping, but works well.
  • Sp**s will probably win, but they have been absolute dog ****. Palace are toothless.
  • This is the story of the entire season so far lol
  • Imagine this place if we put in that performance. 0 shots on goal from the PL champions of October.
  • Palace the better side but they never look like they're going to score
  • Sp**s have played two good teams, us and Liverpool, and they should have lost both games.
  • You say that we should have won every game we failed to win. At least since Arteta joined
  • ****k sake, not one shot in 45 mins proper Spursey.
  • Van de ven is so quick ffs
  • They got a bargain there I think
  • Sp**s will nick this as this Palace team couldn't score on a night out with Daneille Lloyd, but I can really see Chelsea turning them over next week.
  • There's that Sp**s luck again, should be behind
  • and now they lead. OG. Jammy bastards.
  • LOOOL own goal obviously. Telly off.
  • SA_Gunner - Lol that was so unfortunate for Palace. Good game though, end to end stuff. Dont think this game stays at 1-0
  • Sp**s luck again
  • Ridiculously lucky. Shot was going out for a throw in ffs. (It was a cross whipped into the 6 yard box, numb brains)
  • How did Guehi miss there!! Sp**s ship so many chances ffs.
  • Opposition players keep making mistakes for Sp**s to win. Been a pattern since game week 1. Maybe its their season
  • Bentancur back will be quite an asset, Bissouma nowhere near what he showed earlier in the season
  • Feels like just yesterday we were celebrating his ACL :poop:
  • Sp*rs lead with zero shots on goal. Certain people here would be pitchforks out if that were us.
  • Lol the ref giving every possible soft foul to them (watching a different ref clearly)
  • SA_Gunner - So this guy Romero is supposed to be superior to Saliba  Palace not even bothered to press him when he is on the ball, they know he cant break lines with his passing. Man you gotta love Sp**s fans.
  • I rubbished claims that the league and officials are trying to manufacture a Sp**s title race but it gets harder to deny every week the luck is a bit mad. (Imagine being a human being and actually believing this)
  • Vicario and Romero just passing it back and forth PRESS FFS
  • SA_Gunner - That was a great goal, Sp**s looking good in transition.
  • That wasn't transition. That was Ward being absolute **** in every action. He gets beaten 3 times in that one attack.
  • SA_Gunner - I see it on the replay now, that was poor defensive work from both Anderssen and Ward. But they were out of shape there, and got caught cold in the end.
  • Lovely goal that
  • Palace deserved that, Tottenham have been announcing that attack for the entire second half. The league leaders win
  • Even that ball from Maddison had a little flick off the defender right into Johnson's path lol
  • Good goal tbh
  • Our attack is poverty.
  • They have all the luck in the world
  • Good play from Johnson there in both plays
  • Did Son just take water from the Palace bag? then offer the ref some? I'm turning this off (guy who thinks there's a conspiracy for Spurs to win the league )
  • Sp**s ended up playing us with Timber/Partey/Rice/Martinelli/Saka/Jesus all missing by the last 15 minutes of our game, here without Olise and Eze. Liverpool decisions, got battered by United in the first half and they should have had a pen. Mad the luck they have had, tbh. Their downfall is gonna be sweet
  • Media wankfest will be unbearable for the Sp**s now. I prefer when they were shiite
  • It's hilarious that they are 5 points clear at the top. What is happening?!
  • Flash in the pan right? Nothing to see here right?
  • They won’t finish top 3.
  • SA_Gunner - Nah they wont, their game is too limited and intensive for them to maintain consistency for an entire season. ust look at how the run back to recover posession for example. That's going to wear them out soon enough.
  • Big Ange proving Little Mik is a fraud week in and week out. You mean to collapse into second you don’t need the time and money in transfers of a moon landing? 👍
  • Nooo Carra don't call them title challengers you was starting to grow on me
  • They will finish on top of us. They are 5 points ahead and the Specialist in Bottling hasn’t even begun to cook. Already he is laying the PR groundwork for a 3rd straight season to recycle his injury excuse for his congenital bottling
  • SA_Gunner - They definitely wont, you can just see it by this game alone. There's no way you concede so many chances on your goal, and think you can keep getting away with Hollywood style saves. They arent defending properly enough, and arent controlling spaces well enough.
  • But when we win away at Palace, its a great result at a difficult ground. 👏
  • Good to see one team in North London employs an attacking style. We got the billion in transfers Tony Pulis on the Red side of town.
  • Are we Mercenary United, if you go on Redcafe all the tossers on there think teams try extra hard and save their best only for United because they are so special. Arteta is already laying the groundwork for his next injury excuse. You got to get on the cultist party line of blaming injuries
  • SA_Gunner - Do you think Palace will press us, or push their lines up like they do here? Go back and watch the highlights of our game there. Teams will never give us such space, we'll absolutely destroy them. Ask PSV.
  • SA_Gunner - Its not about saving their best game, its about us getting the space that Sp**s get. Teams do also sit in a midblock against us, but they dont give a damn about attacking when it comes to Arsenal. Especially now that they cant counter attack either.
  • SA_Gunner - (playing one game a week) We technically did the same last year, its not enough if you dont have the squad. They look set for top 4 though, I think outside of City, Liverpool and ourselves they look good. Newcastle, Villa and Brighton should be able to compete with them.
  • Didn’t prevent Mik from bottling shamefully
  • Can't wait to see the chavs player who will gift Sp**s a goal next week. It's the surest thing when they play these days
  • No bro I don’t want to cheer for the sh.tty whites. I just want Ange to expose Arteta as the fraud we both know he is. Honestly though if Ange gets 84 points and tanks into second like Mik. Let’s just say tune in to AM; because if I am not on another ban by Howard Webberino i will be tapping some Tetsexual a.s
  • Matip,Jorghnho,Ward..The list goes on
  • Ayew golazo. Fair punishment for Sp**s fickle timewasting
  • Come on that's not handball
  • That is 100% a goal
  • SA_Gunner - Yeah it hit his chest first, so it must be a goal.
  • SA_Gunner - Just watch Romero, even when under no pressure, he passes it straight back to his keeper. Nah man, why are we entertaining this nonsense from Sp**s fans.
  • SA_Gunner - (getting into a row with a guy who doesn't rate Arteta) - Lol if you think there's nothign special about Mik then its either personal for you or you dont understand football.
  • He will never beat Klopp or Pep to league. Total fraud did hear his latest bozo interview. He wants 10 subs, he doesn’t even use the subs he has. I think he is a performance comic looking at his selections (they banned the guy now)
  • Sp**s five points clear. Depressing.
  • 2-1 FT. The league winners win. Would cry luck too but can't when I remember our unwatchable performance decided by the ref buying our dive.
  • They are ****e and their luck will run out soon enough. 1 shot on target and win 2-1?
  • So where’s the celebration police now when Sp**s are doing the same as us last season after 10 games?
  • I'm not worried a bit. Sp**s dont even look like Leicester when they won the league. They look way way way worse. They are playing pure garbage and it is not sustainable. It will come and bite them in the ass soon enough.
  • Our squad and quality will win out over the course of the season, but i do think they attack slightly better than us at the moment (even with the lucky own goal). Son and Maddison are on fire.
  • They have some kind of momentum going for them result wise but most of the times I dont think they are impressive at all. We have our own struggles to overcome for sure but I find our base level much higher than theirs. Would be catastrophic accident if we dont end higher than them.
  • I agree, I don't see anything impressive myself. A couple of individuals are excellent and the rest are just there. Our defense is better that's for sure. They too reliant on one or two guys to be a serious threat for me.
Fuckwits.

We've played half of the league but it's an easy start. Do people realise how ridiculous they sound.
Head above the parapet, I don’t think it’s completely ridiculous. It’s an exaggeration though. We have played very well and you can’t argue with the points we’ve taken from those games (we definitely wouldn’t have in previous seasons).

But the next 6 games (Chelsea, Wolves, Villa, City, West Ham, Newcastle) will tell us a lot. If we can keep any kind of momentum through that run we’re flying.

Arsenal fans in particular are making themselves look like total fools with their comparisons... apparently the own goal that we scored for them was the result of their hard work, excellent pressing, forcing us to make a mistake etc but the one Palace scored was just a total fluke.

Yes it's definitely an exaggerated take but what has been missing from our schedule so far is the competent and tricky upper mid table sides like the last three you mention, + City.

What is to our credit, which of course opposition fans ignore, is that we haven't slipped up in any games we "should" be winning. Just see the teams Arse dropped points to in the run in last season for reference.

We'll get better as the season goes on.

The Goons are very much in the denial stage.

26 from 30 is absurd form...despite the fixtures.
I find it weird how this is never acknowledged by anyone, especially the pundits. Everybody seems to just be treating Spurs as a finished article who have started the season in peak form so the only way is down from here.

The manager has been in the job for four months and has integrated a completely different style of play. 4 of the team's starting 11 were signed in the summer, only 3 of the starting 11 were considered starters last year. The club's best midfielder, and arguably most important player, has been injured since February.

The manager has stated, pretty much weekly, that he still expects lots of improvement, particularly in the attacking third. Supporter's of his previous clubs also warned that the first few months will be bumpy as the players adjust to the system, so to not expect it to click until the second half of the season.

"Easy start" or not, the fact that we've picked up so many points at the start of the season while completely changing the style of play and personnel is damn impressive and should be considered an encouraging sign of things to come, rather than this weird "lets wait for them to run out of steam against a top team like Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool Villa" narrative.

And Arsenal fans trying to accuse Spurs of being lucky is absolutely laughable.

Arsenal v Man Utd
Arsenal score from a massively deflected shot that was nowhere near going in.

Arsenal v Tottenham
Arsenal score from a massively deflected shot that was nowhere near going in.

Arsenal v Man City
Arsenal score from a massively deflected shot that was nowhere near going in.

Chelsea v Arsenal
Arsenal score an open goal from a massive goalkeeper error.

But Spurs are lucky.

People quickly lose perspective in football. I don't think anybody within our fanbase think we'll win the league so for it to be pointed out that we'll be "bought back down to earth" is just a load of shit, I'm firmly on the ground.

Before the season started all most of us wanted was a return to enjoying watching us play. The only people talking about us having a tilt for the league are people outside of Tottenham.

RedCafe:

- Another foul from Palace to prevent a breakaway and no yellow. This referee is very lenient.
- As a spectacle this needs a Spurs goal to draw Palace out more. As a result, 0-0 would be lovely.
- Van de Ven is so fast.
- Edouard should have been booked for that foul on Romero and then a minute later another nasty tackle on Van De Ven. Still no bookings. This is brilliant but I’d be absolutely fuming if I was a Spurs fan. Their players are getting zero protection here from the ref.
- Palace are such a dirty side. Can't believe they haven't received a single yellow yet.
- This van de ven guy looks so good
- Palace are booting Spurs all around the pitch.
- Watching this Tottenham team....seeing them actually having midfielders in the centre of the pitch and play it in there....almost brings tears to my eyes
- Palace the cause of their own downfall. Almost a disaster from the keeper on the ball then a minute later an own goal.
- Another for Spurs. 2-0.
- Palace deserve that. I can’t believe their lack of press. They’re literally standing watching Spurs pass it around. This is a very good Spurs side now. 11 points behind them.
- Tottenham look so much better than us at playing out and turning it into an attack. Great goal
- That second goal, the patience in passing, the confidence for the midfield to take the ball in tight spaces in the centre and then the positioning of the players to pull a stubborn palace apart. Honestly just great football.
- Chelsea, Wolves, Villa, City, West Ham and Newcastle next up. Think that will be a tricky run-in - two derbies, City and Newcastle away and in-form Villa. The benefit is they play once a week.
- The things people are marking Spurs down for are actually strengths. They aren't playing particularly well but are still leading and look like they can create a chained goal at any given moment. No individual brilliance prerequisites as the whole midfield and attack will work in harmony. And this is a bad game for them, and still they look threatening.
- I really hope Spurs can keep it up and bag the Prem this season. The least of 6 evils. Going undefeated would also be sweet too. I'll be rooting for them this season in the absence of any United hope.
- Spurs normally had every excuse in the book to explain having an average season: lost their best player and top goal scorer in the summer, didn’t replace him (directly), new manager needing transition season, etc. How are they top of the league, playing with such confidence?
-
I know we love to slag off other team's fans but you've got to say these guys are pretty generous when their own team is so rubbish. For some people at least we seem to be their new second team , like a long time ago Keegan's Newcastle used to be. The team people like simply because they like good football.

So true.

Before the season:
Pundits and other fans - Spurs ~10th.
Me - Spurs ~5th.

Now:
Pundits and other fans - Spurs 1st?
Me - Spurs ~4th.

Whenever (as is likely) we fall away from the title race, we’ll be told that we all thought we had it won in October 🙄

We've played over 25% of the season and played 2 of the other 3 teams currently in the top 4.

Not sure why other other fans are acting like we've played Luton 10 times.

I think it’s because we haven’t played the second tier, the villas, brightons, Newcastles etc.
But our next 5 games are very tough. We need to come out of it with 10 points ideally.

100% this. I’ll enjoy the ride and the steps Ange has taken already with this team are exceeding my expectations - but not anticipating a title tilt at the moment despite the current table/form.

Lower teams or not we are still winning consistently, which is something we typically fail to do. How many times have we beaten City to follow it up with a loss against a Sheffield Utd or the like?

And there is also a lack of recognition that we weren’t at our best yesterday and yet still ground out the win. That’s the sign of the makings of a solid team.

It will be interesting to see how we respond to a loss but we didn’t let getting knocked out of the League Cup slow us down. And I can’t see Ange letting heads drop or allowing us to back off and not try and play on the front foot.

Ultimately, the saltier the comments the better we are doing. Long may it continue!

Agree on the last point. Everyone’s taking shots at the moment which tells you they’re worried.

You have to take most opposition fans' comments with a massive pinch of salt. They are already coming from a biased point of view so will always look for the negative. Few Spurs fans are getting carried away and even fewer than that are talking about a genuine title challenge but obviously it's inevitable that we'll get accused of being 'deluded' even though it's the media, not the fans getting carried away.

It's funny when liverpool and arsenal fans are spitting blood at how the refs are on our side........and Man Utd fans see the exact opposite!

Anyone care to mention how easy arsenal's start to last season was? It's how they built up a lead in the league and the momentum carried them through the majority of the season.......which is why they are worried now, as they know that could well occur with us.

  1. A Palace - 12th
  2. H Leicester - 8th (but relegated)
  3. A Bournemouth - promoted
  4. H Fulham - promoted
  5. H Villa - 14th
  6. A Utd - 6th
  7. H Everton - 16th
  8. A Brentford - 13th
Until they played us I'd say that's a pretty easy start to last season (particularly when you take into account the disarray at Leicester and Utd)?
I think most arsenal fans would say as much too.

After today, Arsenal will have had 5 fixtures exactly the same as ours - Palace (a), Fulham (h), Man Utd (h), Bournemouth (a) and Sheff Utd (h).

Their other games have been Forest (h), Everton (a), Spurs (h), Man City (h) and Chelsea (a).

Compare that to ours, Brentford (a), Burnley (a), Arsenal (a), Liverpool (h) and Luton (a).

Of the differences, they have played 3 at home, one team from last season's top 6 and one relegation candidate.

We have played 1 at home, 2 of last season's top 6 and 2 relegation candidates.

They have also had a lot of luck with deflections, penalties, late goals and VAR decisions.

So, how can they say that we have been lucky and our fixture list has been kind, compared to them?

Really strange narrative.
