Merson, though. Fair play to him - he's looked at it from a perspective that, if we're honest, many of us feared. Would the space that we leave behind be exploited by a more capable side than what we've played thus far? It's a fair question, and he decided to lump on ... publicly.

He's a gooner, and I respect that he's made that prediction. But the question's been answered, and he's lost his bet ... publicly. It doesn't make him (any more of) an arse to my mind. It just means he has to eat a plate of shit now.

If he wandered into my local right now, I'd buy him a pint ... to help wash that shit down. Just one of footy's pleasantries, to my mind.

It's not so much his prediction itself that I had a problem with, but it was the immensely cocksure and arrogant way in which he put it.

His written prediction started with: It's a big test for Tottenham - it's not a big test for Arsenal, is it?

He absolutely deserves the shit he'll hopefully get.

This one is my favourite, they really are a deluded bunch
  • An average Tottenham team matched us with a fraction of the talent and at a fraction of the cost

  • We are distraught, yet no doubt the shadow dwellers are celebrating it like they just won the Audi cup. Shows the difference.
Could also argue they haven’t given Ange the budget Arteta has to get to this level. He’s basically taken Contes squad, lost their best player and still has them playing good football. We should of been out of sight after 30 odd minutes but our strikers are awful.
  • I think 2-2 is probably a fair result tbh. Both teams played pretty well with attacking intent. Our pen was soft and their 2nd goal was an individual howler from Jorginho.
Obviously it’s our home game so we really should have won that, considering we’re probably the better team, but spuds were good value for a draw.
  • Genuinely think that we wouldn't have scored at all if Romero wasn't completely and utterly brain-dead...
  • Was surprised they took Son and Maddison off to be honest, think Sp**s may well have nicked it if they had been a bit braver
  • Is anyone going to mention the elephant in the room? Sp**s have bought very well and look like genuine top 4 material under Ange.
  • It certainly seems to be an elephant because I have no idea why everyone was so confident about this match.
  • They look good compared to last season - and compared to Chelsea - which isn’t hard. They’re very much in transition, assuming they ever get there.
  • The overrating on Sp**s on here is enough to have me grab the Nexium pills.
They'll come crashing down to earth when a ruthless & more clinical Liverpool dismantle them next week.
  • Sp**s getting praised is funny having thier emery unbeaten run they got lucky against utd and today despite us having off day teams are missing strange easy chances against them.
  • I haven’t seen anyone overrating them? The opposite if anything
  • Watching Bissouma today, we really missed one of our deep midfielder being able to take the ball and dribble forward a bit.
  • They're an alright side with a couple good players in Kulusevski & Son who are, to the agreement of everyone, wasting their careers at Sp**s.
  • Sp.rs lucky.
  • Liverpool will likely concede tow against Sp**s too but imo they'll put 5 past them they have more ruthless attack
  • Jorginho just came in to cost us the win. Couldn't really believe he could be that dumb
He's made Sp**s think they're in a title challenge lol
  • But an unusual number of sp*rs fans predicting that they’d get something from the game before kick off was very noticeable. It was more significant than just the typical nonsense on Twitter.
  • Credit where it's due, Sp**s deserved a point.
  • Sp**s are a very good side and playing their best football in a long while.
  • Upon further review.
Not sure how we drew this match. Should have been over at anytime during the match. Sp**s should be happy with the point because they played above expectations, but still not at Arsenal’s level, even when we play mediocre.

  • Sky are really trying to big up Spurs, they’ve had a decent start but they’ll aren’t all that.
  • When they inevitably hit a brick wall, they'll be the first to hound the manager out.
Ange probably needs two seasons to turn Spurs around.
  • I hope Spurs win but they never do at the Tarquins. Draw best we can hope for.
  • Now it is who will possibly finish second.
Give over, no chance Spurs finish 2nd or get within 10pms.
  • Watching Vicario on the ball does hammer home how good Onana is at passing.
  • Spurs look a lot better than previously
  • They are a very physical team now.
  • Very good save by Vicario. He's been very good this season
  • This Spurs team are nothing special.
  • Who's this un doggie character?? Looks worse that amrabat at LB
  • This Spurs team are shite. How did we lose to them?
  • Strange comment. They've been considerably better than us this season, and they're playing pretty well against a title competing Arsenal side at the Emirates
  • Yep, they are a lot of huff and puff, Maddison will have his usual poor run and I don’t see enough goals in the team.
  • My Spurs supporting pal going mental about Son being a lazy so and so.
  • Watching this Tottenham side is like watching us, so sloppy with possession with a few flashes of potential.
  • Was always coming. Spurs awful, we did much better against Arsenal.
  • Own goal 1-0
  • Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke.
  • Saka trolling Maddison with that stupid dart celebration
  • That Udogie is atrocious.
Spurs should have just kept Reguilon.
  • Saka's had Udogie on toast. Arsenal have dominated Spurs since the start. Think this will end up a comfortable win for them
  • Spurs losing is a good result for us. City, Liverpool and Arsenal look out of our reach so far. Hopefully we can get fourth place.
  • Yeah those 3 are by far the best 3 in the league
  • Yes. Only 1 position up for grabs and it's between us, spurs and Newcastle
  • Spurs getting dismantled.
  • Spurs have equalised.
  • Quite like Spurs again.
  • Cracking goal. Was coming too.
  • What a goal. Maddison sold Saka big time.
  • Commentators sound disappointed haha
  • Thats some good play from Spurs
  • People have been royally underrating Spurs on here.... but that has been absolutely coming. This game could easily be 3-3.
  • Deserved
  • That's fantastic from Maddison. Lovely goal.
  • Spuds goal has been coming
I think there's another 3-4 goals in this
  • That's actually a ridiculously good finish.
  • Madison is 10 times better than Mount
  • Good play by Maddison. He suits Spurs really well. Nice goal and Spurs did well to keep the pressure on after the initial cross came in.
  • Great work by Maddison.
Crazy how far behind the top teams we are.
  • Udogie looks good driving forward in the Arsenal half
  • Maddison's dribbling has surprised me how good it is. I knew at Leicester he was good at leading counter attacks with his ability to spin on the half turn into space but here he is dribbling out of trouble and congested areas.
  • They are playing 1 game a week, already out of one cup. No European football, should be no problems keeping up the intensity.
  • Spurs grew into the game. Maddison and Udogie both did very well.
  • Every game that goes by makes our decision v Spurs look worse and worse
  • 2-2
    This is fun
  • Ahahahahaha
feck you arteta you ****. Celebrate that
  • That didn't last long  Son is some player.
  • Justice for Spurs.
  • Maddison and Son are class together.
  • Maddison is the best no.10 in the league with KDB out.
  • Madisson has been such a good smart buy from spurs
  • Madisson has been such a good smart buy from spurs
  • Son is such an immensely likeable player.
  • Over celebrate that you set of ****s
  • Maddison is a brilliant player.
  • Arsenal v Spurs is always briiliant. Best derby for the neutral by a country mile
  • That finish by Son was brilliant
  • Maddison seems fine. Good news, they need him fit for the Scouse
  • fecking hell, that passage of play from spurs!!
  • Spurs play good football
  • Spur are playing like how I thought ETH would make us play. Sheet power and will.
  • How had AP got then playing this kind of footy this quickly yet we play as we do under ETH?
  • Let's see Spurs win some trophies first yes before you completely empty your ballsack. There are 8 months left of the season.
  • Spurs midfielders are very brave with the balls. That's why they are able to play through the press and create chances.
  • fecking hell, that passage of play from spurs!!
I can only dream of seeing that here
  • Today evidences why I wanted Ange Postecoglu instead of Pochettinho.
Absolute shambles whilst Spurs are fearless away to Arsenal.
Was ridiculed on here too for it. (Chelsea fan)
  • Battle of the legends
  • I feel like this should become the new official title of this derby.
  • Bissouma just destroyed Havertz
  • Bissouma has the potential to be world class. Outstanding today
  • Bissouma is a baller. Last season was a blip then.
    Nah it was Conte ball.
  • Conte should go to jail for what he did at Spurs.
  • Bissouma has been MOTM
  • Bissouma's in his peak Frenkie De Jong era
  • Bissouma has been on beast mode
    Back to his best.
  • Bissouma is ridiculously good
  • Really poor performance. Never seen Saka and Odegaard both so poor at the same time.
Spurs closed them down well and didn't let them play their game. Spurs should have won it.
  • Good game. Bissouma was impressive. Thought the game lacked something once Son and Maddison went off, but Arsenal didn't have enough to go for the win. 2-2 is a very fair result.
  • Proper manager in charge and Spurs poor recruitment suddenly looks like a bunch of smart pickups, Ven Udogie Bissouma Maddison Vicario looking good
  • Cue 'Ange is the messiah' headlines.
I don’t know… he seems an excellent manager to me though. He’s doing a great job with this Kane-less Spurs. They look a better team than they have for a long time.
  • Spurs bench options are terrible, no real creative player once Maddison goes off. And Richarlison 60mil
Soloman is average, Hojbjerg and Skip run of the mill midfield destroyers that you would find anywhere
  • There's a massive drop off when you look beyond Son and Maddison in the creative positions. You can pretty much guarantee that Spurs will be looking for more players in these areas in the next window. A major injury or loss of form to either Son or Maddison and suddenly it all falls apart for them.

We'll see how the season goes but I really do feel that Arsenal overachieved a lot last season. They will still be up there top 4 but can't see them threaten City.
City will walk it. Liverpool comfortable second. 3rd and 4rh are completely open.

  • 5LIve raving endlessly about Postecoglou...5 games in. Only beat Sheff United last week with the help of 10 minutes of additional time played. Ridiculous over egging of a manager unproven in the PL. Spurs tendency for hiring and firing managers means Post will be doing well if he's still in the job this time next year.
  • Spurs always been the media darlings club
  • because it’s a London club
  • Want the Spurs withering flowers to ideally win or draw against the Asses today. 4/5 points buffer would be fab this early on!
  • Fuck it, c'mon Spurs
  • "The Greatest Derby Ever" ©SkySports
  • Two teams I despise.
    Come on Spursy (ffs)
  • What is it with these bellends dressed all in black? ultras, ultra dickheads
They’re separating the fams from the bluds
  • Cue someone always saying some non-descriptive b@llocks about "the shift in the balance of power in North London."
  • Not a single soul outside of North London gives a fuck about it. If I'm asked to name the top local derbies in England, you go manchester, merseyside, tyne and wear, Birmingham, sheffield before even considering North London
  • I’ve always found this one of the best derbies. And it’s got a really good back story.
  • Millwall vs West Ham shits all over this as a spectacle.
    Sky are desperate ****s
  • 2 detestable, entitled clubs and fans.
    Some Sunday afternoon entertainment.
The Arreta being a complete tw#t factor, has me favouring Spuds.
  • Spurs boss looks like the kind of bloke you see in your local squeezed into a table with his skinny, leathered face missus wearing a dress two sizes too small.
  • Udogie is clueless at fullback, his positioning is crap. Looked better going forward, that's probably his true position.
  • Fuck off Spurs
  • Spurs getting found out here
  • Spurs trying to play out from the back is truly frightening. It’s going to cost them as players like Udogie aren’t good enough to do it
  • Cmon then Ange let's see how good a manager you are
  • Saka’s dart celebration it was going wide until Romero turned it into his own net
    A jibe at Maddison?
  • 100% knob head move
  • Maddison living up to his overhype.
    He’s class
  • This is the famous Ange's style of football is it? It’s fucking crap
  • They may be behind by Spurs have taken this right to Gunners. Dominated possession, had a few good chances. It took Arteta 1-2 years to get his team to this level
  • Spurs seem to have figured out how to attack them.
    Deserved equaliser.

My 61st birthday today. Both my adult sons are Ars fans (I know. only in the US). Both texted me HB before the game hoping I would enjoy th morning before the match. Not a word from either since.

Guess I won't be listening to any shit during the holidays!!!!!
You have failed as a parent! ….: I jest, glad you’ve got the opportunity and o give em some stick when you see them!

This is what they said about yesterday's game last week. They never learn do they?
No point in worrying about it the next team is always going to be the next big test. Liverpool and City are the tough ones to beat be really good to get results there.

So funny reading the com.ents on Udogie clearly influenced by Neville's commentary in the first half, only for once he's shut up them realise he's actually mustard

Honestly some of those comments...it's like 95% nonsensical drivel with a sprinkle of objectivity thrown in. Especially the 2 Manc clubs.
Are our match/premier league threads really that bad also?
Admittedly these are fans views, but the analysis is just so bad...I mean like laughably bad, it can't just be blind tribalism.
That Udogie is atrocious.
Spurs should have just kept Reguilon.

Love the fact you can see the tide turn in those comments. It’s like:

“spurs are crap, Udogie is clueless, Maddison is overrated”

to

“wow Spurs playing great, Udogie is really good, Maddison is the best number 10”

Love it!

I've never seen anything to suggest Merson is "a really nice bloke".
There's a programme about his gambling on the iPlayer which is good and he also did one for bbc4 where he went hiking on his own, talked a lot about his issues and filmed it with a camera on a selfie stick. He's a very decent bloke who is well aware of his problems, how they've affected himself and others and is good at communicating those things. Quite a contrast to the clueless, hyperbolic, clown on sky sports.

A few of them saying they should have been out of sight are deluded. Bar the maddison mistake what the hell did they create? Two shots for impossible angles?
Ignoring we had 3 much bigger chances in that time.
