He looks unfit to me at the moment, or maybe just disinterested in playing for Pompey?

not quick though by a long shot, probably a tad slower than Bentley, but more versatile

modric isnt very quick at all. as long as you know how to get past your man (and trust me this guy does), you'll be alright.

he twisted in and out of about 5 of our players in a clip with steed, berba, zoks and some others trying to tackle him. Im not watching any more clips till it's official because I will get too excited and then not happy if it doesnt go through

Just strikes me as Chimbonda part 2. Sure he isn't expensive but he isn't going to push us forward or even come close to playing once Modric is healthy so why take on his wages when we just got rid of Chimbonda's?

We have enough talent on the bench that a 6-8 week injury shouldn't turn us into nervous nelly's buying any player that Harry used to coach.

I hope this works out but just doesn't seem like it is needed.

At 2 million, who cares honestly? We can almost certainly sell at a profit, if it doesn't work out.

Fair enough and hope he does well but I just don't see him being any better than what we have in Bentley and Gio so why even make the move?

Would you rather get krancjar and then lose Gio because we don't have any playing time for him? Not me but hopefully we can fit everyone in and things work out nicely for us.

He lacks pace, but he has creativity and experience. He'll link up well with Keane, can put in the crosses, and will give us something extra on set pieces. He's not as good as Modric, but he's the best cover I can think of, especially at that price...

but Gio can't play on the left, he's a right winger and sometimes striker. I'd rather move him to fourth striker (Pav seems to want to leave) and cover/competition for Lennon.

If we can get enough money out of Bentley, we can sell him and use the funds for the CM we desperately need (Sandro?) - Petrov seems unnecessary now with Kranjcar.

Kranjcar is not really a left winger either, though can play across midfield and in the hole.

Under the circumstances, £2m for Kranjcar is very good business. He's not a pacey winger, he's a technically superior version of Ohara. He can use both feet, has good vision, can play wide left, right or middle.

What we would be doing is considerably upgrading on Ohara for probably less money than we could sell Ohara for.

Lets not forget we also have Bale, Rose & GDS.

Good business as far as I'm concerned.

I agree. But it's not £2 million. The deail has to be along the lines of £2 cash + Boateng @ £4 million + O'Hara on loan (season fee of say £1m) = c£7 million.

Pompey were asking £8 million for Kranjcar and there were other clubs interested. £2 million may be the cash changing hands, but there's no way it's the real cost of signing Niko.

BOATEENG+2MIL for Kranjar is a great deal. Sending O'Hara out on loan to get experience is also a great move.

Personally I still think it's a good deal under the circs. I reckon more like 5/6 mil myself. I think when we sell Ohara we will get 4-6. Kranjcar is a superior player.

Kranjcar is better technically than O'Hara. If Niko shows the right attitude (he's often looked disinterested when I've seen him play), he'll be a better squad member than O'Hara.

But if we stick with 4-4-2, Kranjcar will mostly be a squad player when everyone's fit - unless Redknapp is going to play like the Croatian national team with Luka at CM (ahead of Hud/JJ) and Niko at LM.

I don't think he gets into our first XI, but there will always be injuries, so I think of him as our squad player for the midfield, kind of how Chimbonda was for defense--not the greatest, but can cover for anyone in a pinch. I think it's great business. Now all we need is a Palacios understudy and we're golden.

"Squad player"

Cant believe people are saying this, he is a full Croatian International part of their regular XI. Redknapp will most likely play him in the center/wide left. IMHO he would fit perfectly in our first XI.

I can guarantee he is not going to put up with being a 'squad player' he'll be off next window if that's the case.

Disagree.

Modric is a better passer and better defensively than Kranjcar. That's why Luka plays CM for Croatia and Niko plays LM.

I can't remember Redknapp using Kranjcar as a CM at Pompey, even when he had 3 CMs in a 3-5-1, so I'll be surprized if he starts using him as a CM at Spurs ahead of JJ, Huddlestone and Modric.

Once everyone is fit, I would expect Modric and Palacios to be first choice, with Lennon also probably a near automatic starter.

Huddlestone and JJ will compete for the other CM spot. If Niko plays well on the left, Redknapp may keep him at LM and play Modric next to Palacios in the middle.

So imo Kranjcar will be one of our squad midfielders, along with Hud and JJ. Gio and Bale will also start challenging for a midfield spot too.
