Of course nagelsmann would be a brilliant signing but regardless of him being happy to come to us in theory there is zero chance he would leave Lipzig after half a season. I agree that Jose would be preferable over Howe ?. But I'm not sure I would really want him. His track record with youth players and negative football makes me incredibly dubious. Aside from how he leaves the teams he manages. Intresting that he would be happy with a reduced budget. But the fact is, we need levy to pay up properly. Will Kane and Son stick around if we don't turn the team into one who can challenge within the next two seasons? Doubt it. Ugh, it's all so depressing.
My own opinion is one of common sense. If I am at my prime (wanting to win trophies) and 23, 26, 27 years old. Would I stick around when there is huge interest in me? And in this present predicament? I would leave. Now I agree on Maureen, but youth examples etc, is misguided. He would promote youth, only if they are good enough. He only wants youth players training with elite squad, if they have earned it. The unrest created at chavs for example, is the way Abramovich encouraged his players to talk to him on anything. Offering his yacht etc, for holiday breaks. Jose challenged this, and rightly so, and felt his role was being compromised. I know that as a fact.

A lot of the stuff put out about him is seriously inflated. I do not want to get into trouble with the actual happenings at yanited, but it is not what the public are hearing and reading.

Fuck a duck, that sounds troubling.

(this next bit isn't aimed at you Hercules more musings)

Just on this 'youth' tip people bring up when it comes to Jose - it's not like a ton of our youth currently at the club are getting a sniff either, is it? I won't pretend to know what has happened with KWP but from where he was being touted a couple of years ago to where he finds himself today, the fall has been immense. Whacking Jose with the 'not developing youth' stick is a bit rich considering where we find ourselves and the current youth set up.

Poch is doing a better job at stagnating our youth prospects at the moment than bringing them through - Mourinho wouldn't be doing any worse with the likes of KWP, Skipp, Parrott, Tanganga IMO.

They're all currently not playing, so with Mourinho they'll either still be not playing, or getting game time for us / somewhere else out on loan.

Mourinho couldn't improve anyone at United, are you sure that he would improve our youth?

McTominay and possibly Lingard? Not saying he's going to improve our youth, just saying I don't think Poch has done as well as many like to think in recent years.

Any chance we can stop turning every single thread into a Poch out Mourinho in nonsense?

Oh shit yeah, didn't realise which thread this was...

So who are we going to buy then, because I can think of two names who have been mentioned in here so far that are probably in our budget ... Not sure I have read a lot else that even links us with either quality or affordable players.

Atal seems to be the one that most people want, but we’ve no idea whether he’d be interested given he’s talked about PSG in the French media.

There was an Algerian outlet who was said to be reliable reported we wanted him late in the window but viewed him for the following summer.

Nice president said he wouldn’t let him leave in the winter - said if real or Bayern came knocking it would be hard to keep hold of him but they won’t be losing him to a club like Newcastle. Ouch.

Mourinho's a winner. Not only is his own mentality to do whatever it takes to win, but he instils that in his players too. We need a winner to lead us now. As much as I love Poch, I don't believe he has what it takes to take the players to another level.

Now, our perceived playing style and dare I say "philosophy" (whatever that now is) always seems to matter more than doing what it takes to win... more so than winning ugly (when it's needed). It costs us time and time again.

Also, Jose's second title-winning stint @ Chelsea had them playing some incredible attacking football.
Wrong thread!

Atal seems to play most matches in attack now anyway (in fact he has only played right back once this season for Nice!). No idea how he would do defensively in the PL, he could end up being a nightmare.

Big risk involved if it's a lot of money.

He does look a really positive player but I just need to see more of him actually defending, showing good positioning etc.

Atal has been playing LW all season.

I apologize if this is against the grain, but I don't want somebody who's been playing LW all season to come in at right back halfway through the season and be our savior in defense

We have a similar problem with Sessegnon to an extent. Best fit for both is probably wing back, with a DM to help cover. I still see this as our best fit formation at the moment but Poch seems to disagree.

It's arguable that TAA and Robertson at Liverpool are better going forward than defensively - doesn't hurt how they play, they just have more quality depth in their squad than we do (amongst other things at the moment).

Ricardo Pereira is another who people bemoaned us not getting (understandable given Aurier) - again a FB i'd say is better going forward than defensively.

Liverpool have a system which helps mitigate the defensive weaknesses in their rollbacks. Its why their midfield is so workmanlike.

Jhon Lucumí - Left-footed CB, in the Colombia squad along with Sanchez and only 21. He was in the Champions League Team of the Week for his performance against Napoli last month.
