So, if I have this right…..

1234 UCL
5 Europa place for league
6 Europa for FA Cup if won by a team in Europe already
7 League cup winners in Europa (United)
8th - Conference League?

Well, in any case I think we need to change the name of this thread. The team is on a negative trajectory and of all the teams vying for those positions Spurs are the most unstable.

No.

1234 champions league

5th Europa league
Fa cup winners europa league

League cup winners conference league

If a team wins either cup and already qualify for Europe through the league it goes to the next highest team in the league.

So basically top 7 qualify for Europe.

We need to stop turning our noses up at so called inferior competitions. I would rather be in the conference league than have no Europe.
I would usually agree, and I’ve always loved being in Europe and trying to compete. However, this extra competition is UEFA just adding more teams to get more revenue for themselves. No doubt it helps teams that don’t usually end up in Europe and that’s great.

Tottenham however, will qualify for it, be one of the favourites as we usually are, not put the effort in as usual and get dumped out.

Genuinely think it’s best we have a season out of Europe. For the team to regroup, and for Levy to wake up.

And out of Europe what sort of players are we going to attract bearing in mind united arse and Newcastle let alone pool and Chelsea will be more attractive than us

Agree with this sentiment.

Also think it's pivotal that we have a season whereby the coach can really hammer home his ethos on these players after years of mid to low block, passive counter attacking football so that extra time on the training ground midweek will make a difference and set us up better in the long run to challenge on multiple fronts again.

Dude we have zero chance at top 4. We are going to finish 8th.
I genuinely cannot see us winning another game this season.
You never know, but I share your pessimism with this crop of players currently. Newcastle just took a beating, so they are hardly flush on confidence too.

I think as soon as they made the money from CL extortionate and changed it to top 4, ensuring the vast majority of the top teams would be in the CL they made the other competitions a distant second.

I hate that the culture is now only interested in being number 1 and the magic and enjoyment of competing in domestic cups, EL and Conference has massively lessened. I also hate that our enjoyment seems to come purely on whether we finish in the top 4.

I don't personally see us as being above any competition, I'm just not convinced we have the squad to compete in them. I want CL due to the money that goes with it.

We’ve not been able to attract top top players even when we’ve been in the CL. Because we don’t pay the wages to begin with.

One season away from Europe to refocus and build again won’t harm us on that front.

And what makes you think we get back in Europe with average players. Way more completion in the league now even villa and Brighton seem to be ahead of us footballing wise now

Well, we need a proper head coach that can turn them into European calibre players. It’s what Poch did with a fairly average bunch with a few gems in between.

Get the coaching staff right first, the rest will follow.

Were they average? Our 2015/16 team consisted of Lloris, Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose, Dembele, Son, Alli, Eriksen and Kane.

One weak midfielder in Bentaleb or Mason aside and I think we had a good 1st 11.

The Newcastle game will be the one that decides our hopes for Top 4.
This post suggests you think that we're going to pick up a similar number of points as Newcastle in our other matches and I'm sitting here looking at our remaining fixtures and seeing barely any points at all, let alone keeping pace with or gaining on those above us.

Code:
 Newcastle United - Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur - Manchester United
        Liverpool - Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur - Crystal Palace
      Aston Villa - Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur - Brentford
     Leeds United - Tottenham Hotspur

Newcastle away... Forget about it - the atmosphere will be incredible (for them) and we're shit away.
United at home... Maybe. They'll be without both of their first choice centre backs but if we're going to cower in our own half for 90% of the match does it matter?
Liverpool away... Nope. We don't beat Liverpool at Anfield and we're shit away.
Palace at home... Hodgson has them out of the rut they were in, could go either way.
Villa away... Emery has them flying and we're shit away.
Brentford at home... Not seeing it but they're on a pretty awful run themselves.
Leeds away... We're shit away.

So when you say one match is going to decide it, it's fair to say I'm not seeing it. I think we'll struggle to hit 60 points.

Really grates me.

Our fan base have been conditioned to think the other European competitions are to be mocked at.

How many people on here get upset when Arsenal or United gans laugh at Spurs for qualifying for the Conference league? I reckon a fair few.

Why??

They only mock initially but as soon as you reach quarters they all shit it cause they realise it's a genuine chance of winning something.

Look at how our fans mocked West Ham. Soon as they got to the semi final everyone shit it.

We need to stop paying attention to other fans.

If Spurs qualified and won the Conference league/Europa League as much as Sevilla or Atletico do I'd be over the moon.

The club need to start to treat it seriously and make that clear to the players and coaches.

For me thats not the "why" - other fans dont care if we win a conference league. The why is because the tournament is so new, its yet to have the cultural relevance that the other tournaments have, its not a "traditional" part of the trophy landscape. The thought of west ham winning it being annoying is because itd be another team/rival who could bants us about trophies. If we had an fa cup in the bag recently ppl would care a lot less.

If England win the Nations League the fans wouldn't be out on the streets celebrating it like it was the euros for the same reason.

Conte got rid of himself if he had just made his rant in the dressing room after the game then he would still be in charge, not facing up to the players first and then calling them selfish in a public announcement is not the way to go.
Ive come to realise that the bloke was a coward

I think this is why Champions League is still important regardless of what a lot of our fans think.

It makes a difference in players wanting to come...Europa not so much imo...conference league not at all.

Plus having to fly to Turkey on a Thursday night to play Tabzonspor does us no favours in the league...plus injury risk. I'd really rather not be in it.

He's left us in the absolute shitter.

-Drilled inferior tactis into the team and they now find it difficult to play any other system
-Stripped the players of every ounce of creativity
-Player confidence shot (rant just made this worse)
-Failed to develop players (none of our players improved under him, quite a few went backwards)
-Failed to give players a chance (Skipp, Sarr, Danjuma, Richarlison)
-Huge injury list that has to be at least in part attributable to training methods

I really thought when he arrived we had finally cracked it but such a disapointment in the end.

I personally do not care if we finish in the top 4. It just satisfies the board and we continue on this awful track in perpetuity. In our current state with the players we have we won't be anywhere near winning it. I also don't really care for the argument that no top player will join us if we're not in the Champions League. A full factory reset is needed and If that means staying away from the top table for a few years then so be it. Might do us the world of good.

Better than what we have now for sure, and definitely all the right age, but what Poch inherited in his first season was fairly average I thought (those Bale cast offs +Adebayor)! But with his coaching most improved and flourished though, which is what any decent head coach would do for us now without having to entice champions league wanting players.

Hate to say it, we have to do an Arsenal.
