I reckon Gvardiol is already too expensive for us.
Timing is of the essence. We needed to go big & hard (ohh matron!) for him last summer when he was 30-40m cheaper (circa 75m as a guess) and with a few less suitors.

Expect his price to fetch north of 100m now. Just about every big club in Europe will also be sounding him out for a potential transfer.

Me thinks, we’ve missed the boat on this one.

Amazing what 6 months can do to a players stock and price.

Agree with your comments but based on our spending history I can't even see us ever spending £75m on a single player

You’re probably right…

And the Ndombele experience, where we tried to get him before he moved to one of the elites, whilst paying a premium and on top wages, probably hasn’t helped convince the money-men either.

Appreciate that all clubs make mistakes in the market but Ndombele does seem our most obvious albatross.

Didn't he just extend his contract at the end of summer with a release clause? He will have his pick of the clubs. It won't be us being stingy

Chelsea went hard for him. Leipzig didn’t want to sell. They knew his fee was only gonna go up.

There is a weird thought by some fans that clubs are more than happy to sell their top potential for peanuts if they bid early enough.

Leipzig turned down offers in the summer of 2021. Not sure why anyone thinks they were prepared to sell and there was a boat for us to miss.

It's more likely that his club want him to stay and get him to his best level before selling him for a premium price.

I’ll be the first to admit, that I’ve not studied this thread. But I’d be happy to make a wager with you, that there’s been no mention of posters advocating that Leipzig would consider selling for “peanuts”.

Sounds like you’ve added that bit for maximum effect.
