Just seen that Sagan is retiring from World Tour races at the end of the year. Like or loathe him, he brought something different to racing. Big miss in terms of character, can't see another like him coming through.

Yeah will definitely be missed. There aren't many characters like him in the world tour.
Would quite like to see him get the Vuelta points jersey - one of the few (realistic) things missing from his palmarès.

Chapeau to Mr Pidcock in winning the Strade Biacnhe yesterday. Seeing him take those descents on the gravel at speeds akin to those when the descend on tarmac shows how cyclo-cross and mountain biking have honed his bike handling skills.

Hopefully he can nick another classic and cement his selection for Le Tour.

That reminds me to watch the highlights. Great win by the sound of it; he's got some quality all round talent, that lad.

You may want to watch the women's race as well, close encounter of the equine sort and a tight finish

Phew what a Sunday. Pocket rocket Tom Pidcock winning Men's World Cup Elite XCO after twice coming off the bike to add to his short track win on Friday.

After seeing Cav sliding across the road one hand holding his bike to claim 5th in a sprint (later placed 4th), the Giro hots up with G man and Tao G-H crashing the party in the time trial. Following that the hot favourite, Remco Evenepoel pulls out with COVID, leaving G, Roglic and Tao covered by 5 seconds going into week 2. Ineos V Jumbo, some battle to come.

This Giro is a brute, Soudal - Quick-Step have another 4 riders abandon, after Remco, before stage starts, 2 others abandon before the start. What was looking like a gentle stroll through some nice countryside turned into another crash, taking down the top 3 in the classification, out of this Tao fractures his hip and Sivakov, who was in top 10, just about made it home.

Then in the last 3km there was another crash which left 30 standing. Jesus, how many will drop after today's stage?

Manx rocket 3rd and heard that he is going to the Tour.

So the Manx missile is to park his bike following this season. Along with Sagan two huge stars of recent years departing.

Phenomenal competitor but also showed a cheeky character and a caring family man. Loved watching him and Wiggo together in the 6-day events, seeing the lighter side of cycling.

I can always picture that great HTC lead out team dominating the lead outs in sprint finishes paving the way for Cav to unleash hell. I will also remember the sadness of watching him crash in his 'home' stage on the Tour in 2014 and in 2017 when Sagan elbowed him into the barriers. Most recently was in the Giro where in the wet his back wheel kicked out and he was knocked over by another rider only for Cav to hold on to the bike to cross the line on his back to claim 4th.

A fitting way to depart would be to break the Tour record in the GB stripes.

Chapeau Cav.

Wow, the Manx Missile delivers on his last stage. What a record, winning a stage ar every Giro he's raced. What a way to sign off, hope he gets a chance on Le Tour.

Chapeau

Just seen that. Great for him and hopefully a real confidence boost for the Tour. If he can just replicate that on the Champs Elise.....

RIP Gino Mäder.

The crash yesterday was horrendous by all reports. Wonder if there will be any fallout regarding the course that was set, several riders have noted how dangerous this section was.

Horrible news. I've only read reports and seen photos, thankfully from far enough away, and it clearly wasn't good.

It's the increase in crashes and accidents in general that has made me follow the sport a bit less. It's become a lot harder to watch.

Gutted, Cav crashes and has had to abandon due to a collarbone injury. Mech fault robbed him yesterday.

Thank you Cav for all the great Tour highlights.

Poor Cav. Makes yesterday even more gutting.

It feels like an eternity since sport last had me delirious with joy. It's just been bad result after bad result across all formats for so long.

I guess the t20 world cup was good.
