pitch has been fine, has made for a good match tbh.
I disagree tbh. A decent pitch wouldn’t have the ball dying after the bounce in the very first session of day 1. Resting Bumrah for this match was obviously a calculated move too.

England now seem to have a pretty decent set of spinners (despite the county championship pretty much outlawing them) and have bowled extremely well in India. This test would’ve been a total mismatch had England only had the likes of Mason Crane and James Tredwell to choose from.

Foakes, along with the spinners has been one of the shining lights of this tour and highlights why he has been woefully underused in the past - it is hard to put your finger on why.
I think Adam Gilchrist recently stated that he (Foakes) is the best keeper to spin bowling he has ever seen, and he should know! (one of my all time favourite cricketers)

Young Bashir is doing well here, solid holding an end and letting Foakes score at the other

I’d start him, I’m old school, best WK plays and he’s actually a tough and skillful batsmen too
Agreed. Bairstow may score more runs at a quicker pace but Foakes saves 50-100 runs with his keeping. I think that has been lost in recent years…keepers are being selected on their batting ability first before how good they are with the gloves. A good wicket keeper will save you runs and not need to make them up with the bat.

100% agree, and the way he's been treated, in then out then in again, is a shambles. he's the best keeper i've ever seen, he should be playing every game.

My favourite player from the 2005 Ashes team was Geraint Jones. Weird choice as there was so many players to like. Think he’s the only one who comes close to Foakes in terms of keeping. His reflexes were insane. Saying that, Chris Read was out of this world and very unlucky to not get into the England side on a more regular basis.

I'm not sure how you can say this when Stokes and McCullum have presided over a really successful period.
They've stated they pick horses for courses and it's generally worked. It just smacks of people hating Bairstow and loving Foakes but the reality is the management have generally gone nowhere.
Foakes has shown his batting limitations in this knock for me. He's gone nowhere and not hurt the Indians. He's great batting with players who take risks but then they get called out for a sloppy shots but they move games on which is what our management team want.

I really don’t understand what the game plan is here. I don’t imagine Foakes went against Stokes/McCullum by refusing singles and not going for boundaries…so then what is the point in wasting time, not moving the scoreboard and giving India a night’s sleep and more favourable conditions to bat in??
