After today I think almost everyone will fancy a 4-3-3. I also think the team picks itself.

--------------Lloris----------------
Walker--Dawson--Vertonghen--BAE
-----------Huddlestone------------
---------Holtby---Dembele--------
Bale----------Defoe-------Dempsey

Friedel, Caulker, Naughton, Parker, Carroll, Sigurdsson, Adebayor.

Each player in the team has earned a start. Didn't think I'd be advocating a Dempsey start but his goals could yet prove vital. Our bench also has depth and variety, looking in good shape. If Lennon returns to the bench then someone will have to drop out.

Love this lineup, with the exception of Hudd starting, feel he's that much more effective when the other team is getting knackered, would give Parker the first 60,then Hudd the next 30.

Have always felt adevayor should start ahead of Defoe because of his link up play, but now think he needs a game on the bench

------------------------ Lloris -------------------------
Walker ---- Dawson -------- Vertonghen ---- BAE
---- Dembele ----- Huddlestone ----- Holtby -----
----- Bale <----------------------------> Siggy ----
----------------------- Defoe -------------------------

I like the idea of having the opportunity to have options on the bench for any situation. Down by a goal late? Bring on Dempsey or Adebayor. Up a goal and needing a little more grit in midfield? Bring on a fresh Parker to really nip at Wigan.

Huddlestone has earned a start. I've been a pretty big critic of his given the lack of mobility, but this isn't a Chelsea-esque midfield. Wigan's midfielders aren't exactly crafty players that will run right around Huddlestone (they might, but it probably won't be with such devastating effect). And, I love the way Huddlestone has dropped into defense to cover for a charging Vertonghen, something we really have missed since Sandro has gone out.

Holtby was fantastic in my opinion, and I think he showed that he really wants to be out there.

Siggy had an off match, but I just like him more than Dempsey. I know Dempsey had a great match, but what Siggy has done over the past month or two shouldn't be forgotten after one lackluster performance.

This also could all be moot if Lennon is back, which it sounds like he really could be.

Assuming everyone is fit I'd go with something like this.

----------------------------Lloris--------------------------
Walker---------Dawson-------------Verts-----------BAE
-------------------------Huddlestone---------------------
---------------Dembele----------------Holtby------------
Lennon--------------------Defoe--------------------Bale

I'd also consider starting Bale on the right so that he can play the kind of role that Hulk played at Porto, cutting inside for goal scoring opportunities with Walker providing width on that side. I think Lennon would still be able to influence the game from the left. If Lennon is unavailable put Bale on the right with Dempsey on the left.

I'm not sure that the craft of the opposition players is what will cause the issue, it'll be that Wigan are going to go full throttle and be in Hudd's face all the time which will make him look more ordinary. I think it will be an entirely different game to the City one, where they play with no width at all and were very good at filling up the spaces inside. Wigan need to go for it and as such will be stretched and we can find spaces inside where Bale can exploit them.

I think I'd go with:

Lloris
Walker---Dawson---Vertonghen---BAE
Dembele---Holtby
Lennon-----Bale-----Sigurdson
Defoe

Whatever the team is I hope it includes one of Hudd or Carroll, Holtby, and no Parker. 4-3-3 for the rest of the season please.

Amazing how Dawson has come in and secured a spot this season...to think we were almost flogging him to the Championship :D

I agree with this line up except Parker still starts - Holtby has good super sub vibe :ninja:

I'm so glad we kept him. He has really proved his worth this season. I reckon he'll be playing third fiddle behind Kaboul and Vertonghen next season, but what a third choice CB he is. With Kaboul, Verts, Daws and Caulker we've got 4 quality CBs.

But anyhoo, I'd like to see a 4-3-3 with Hudd, Holtby and Dembele in the middle.

Really got to beware this fixture after the euphoria. Wigan can be dangerous on their day and are fighting fro their lives. Got to get on top of them early and keep our foot on their throat. Have to put pressure on the Arse who you have to fancy will come up short against a jubilant freshly crowned United.

wigan are a nice team in my opinion they play good football, there not a stoke city type side. We need to cut them open early and preferably thrash them like liverpool did. We need a better goal difference.

Just picked pretty much the same team at work, but I gave Azza a place on the bench
