Don’t think that’s true. In the last 3 years we’ve had a net spend on average of around £70m each year.

So my point still stands - Will we get that same £70m to spend this summer on top of the £150m investment?
Find out in Sept I guess but I'd say no.

I think we will spend more than 150 million. 150 million is sizeable but it's not crazy, elite clubs spend that every summer. It's like a normal budget. It's two 70 million players pretty much.

Don't get me wrong, it's a decent wedge, but if we are looking at backing Conte with 6 or 7 new players, 150 million doesn't go far even with a couple of free transfers thrown in.

It will be interesting to see how much we do spend, it could easily be 200 mill+ if you factor in CL money plus player sales. The main thing is we sign the right players anyway regardless of cost.

Was thinking this. We'll sign 8 players before S.korea and have loads moaning if nothing happens on deadline day.

I would liek us to keep atleast one for deadline day - its nonsensical I know an dwould piss off Conte but I like a bit of a surprise one.

Only just getting to this, and, the happiest 15+ pages in a while!
Credit to Trix and the ITK who said this, back in Jan. Fair dues to enic/levy, doing this in public, now, is a pretty good definition of backing. Add naming rights and were going mental..
Does make a bit of a dream list, well, more realistic. It's going to be a fun ride.
And I really hope bastoni comes off (though, gvardiol I rate too). Would love to see eriksen (but think he will go somewhere he'd get more mins)
And, most of all, hope we get more like romero, kulu and bentancur..!

Plays the right of a 3 where Romero is excelling. Would find it a bit odd now.
Wonder if it’s Inter’s side or agents feeding him info too. Can imagine their ideal would be to keep Bastoni as the local boy and sell Skriniar then pop Bremer on that side.

Putting Skriniar’s name out there with our interest in it could be bait to get Chelsea or someone like that into bidding for him. Who knows really.

Increasingly I’m thinking Pau Torres might be a CCB target, rather than LCB. Yes Eric Dier has been immense but as others have said so many times we need genuine depth wherever possible. For villareal and Spain, Torres often plays a covering role using his speed to cover for the more aggressive CB partner. Sound familiar? He has exceptional ball playing ability which our CCB needs as he is often required to pick an incisive pass through a press and he is also strong physically. With a deal to be had with Lo Celso and potentially a gentleman’s agrrement to give Inter a free run at Bremer it might make sense? Good age profile as well at 25.

I don't think we're in for him seriously this summer. Certainly not 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice anyway (my guess for those would be Bastoni, Brewer and De Vrij).

Pretty intriguing events today, although the ITK’s did mention it a while back. Kudos to them.
If we shop smart, a couple of freebies, and then some hefty fees for players too, our squad would be very much strengthened - but that seems pretty obvious to me with £150mill plus to spend (assuming that will go in to the playing squad). I’m not up to date on all the players linked, but everyone on here seems to have a slight variation on the same players, so I can take a stab at who we are targeting:

Forster
Eriksen
Bastoni
Kostic
Bassouma/Phillips (both really impressed vs us this season)
And a Rwb - as to whom, I don’t know.
Dybala

That seems a pretty good list to start with. No idea if Hakimi is available or even achievable. Personally I wouldn’t go for Pogba. And other players we’ve seen linked are now probably not to the elite quality we’d want. More than likely there are some names further down the line that we’ve not had info on too, so it should be quite the summer. It’s getting the deals over the line, and not being hammered for the prices their teams will want.

Also a good shout from someone earlier, saying that the medical team upgrades may fall in to this whole equation? Conte and Jose both haven’t seemed enamoured with who we currently have there at the moment. Again, I have no idea if staff like that will be on a separate budget.

Let's say we sell Winks, Lo Celso and Ndombele and buy McGinn and Bissouma. How would everyone feel?

I know McGinn is not the sexiest signing but I believe these two would be a big upgrade. I'll take Palhinha too, alternatively.

I'd forget McGinn and bring in Eriksen instead.

I like the first part, but where you lose me is bringing in McGinn and Bissouma.

McGinn is more of a Right Midfielder in a CM3, than he is a CM, in a CM2.

Bissouma I would not touch until he is cleared in his sexual assault case. Its just not a risk worth taking at this point.
