Generally agree but how on earth can most of our players have tired legs. Not in Europe and out of both cups.
It’s mostly down to the injuries and tournaments. Sarr, Bentancur, Maddison, and Bissouma have all had injuries and illness in the last few months, coupled with all the other injuries in the squad and the time away at afcon and you can start to see why our press has been so shite in the last few weeks.

It’s the same story in defence.

Not good enough today all over the pitch,, too much mediocrity out there,, need 2 quick goal scoring wing forwards,

Richarlisons back to being Richarlison, hopefully his little purple patch will trick somebody into giving us decent money for him in the summer

We looked absolutely toothless.

I still think we're on par for where we should be, but for the first time this season I'm getting worried about our performances. This wasn't a one-off either, if anything we're lucky we've picked up 7 points against Brentford, Everton, Brighton and Wolves in 4 games where we've been the second best team in.

All season we have been saying our forward line isn’t up to scratch and today was just another reminder of that imo. Kulu was better second half until he was moved central to accommodate Johnson.

In general tho Ange has really struggled all season against teams that sit deep and pack the box and today was no exception.

Maybe this 2 week reset has come at the right time. I'll reserve judgement until our next game when we should have everyone back

We have whole weeks in between games as it is, because we bombed out both cups, and seem to be getting worse the longer we have on the training pitch 😂

I don't think this is how Ange wants us to play...
Maybe he’s not used to Premier League low blocks?

Either way, we haven’t seen him add any width to the game, even when it’s so obviously called for. And it’s happened plenty of times this season.

The players need to own that performance. No good Ange keeps taking the blame for it all. Hope he rips into them after that because it was pathetic.

I can't remember when we truly played well generally.

Almost every game our system gifted spaces on the wing and chances that are easier to put away.

Hope Ange evolves the system fast . We can't play kamikaze football every week.

Incredibly frustrating game. Probably a few more results like that to come until we can iron out the mistakes, and get some more balance into our play. I still think we'll be alright in the long run.

The Davies/Royal fullback pairing should never be seen again in this system. Our fullbacks effectively play like CMs, so I’d much rather see a CM slot in than a traditional fullback being asked to take up those positions.
They shouldnt but if Porro and Udogie are both out what can we do? Still a lot of work to do with the squad building.

We have one point more than Villa in our last five matches, including today, and three points more in the last 10 games in what has felt like a sticky run for us.

Villa have already started to drop off and they'll go all out for ECL which will give them nine more games than us if they reach the final. I'm not saying we will definitely finish above them but people here are throwing in the towel already and fuck that.

United worry me more because they've started grinding out results despite looking shit and won't go away.
If Villa have any sense they’ll focus on the league. They won’t get a better shot at champions league any time soon. You’re right about United though, they’ve turned a corner.

That was pretty miserable viewing. Our play is very slow and predictable. When it's out wide everything slows down and either into a brickwall or back it goes. In a nutshell plenty of possession little on target and plenty of last ditch defending.

That could have been Jose / nuno / Conte as manager . Ponderous , clueless and totally naive performance . We’ve been nicking results without playing well but that only last so long .

I’m sure the majority opinion will be that we were shit but I believe we came up a very good team with a very good game plan; 5-3-2 when out of possession, with no gaps happy to let the ball out wide knowing their CBs can handle any crosses, In possession quick counterattacks exploiting the space in behind our FBs. And it worked. Having said that the goals are mistakes on our part(same could be said about them for our goal). The first goal is someone unmarked at a corner that should not have been given away. The second is a great counterattack on their part but Bissouma has to be picking up Gomez’s run.
It’s all fine margins. Sometimes you just have to give credit to the opposition for carrying out a good game plan. We just didn’t have sufficient guile to unlock their defense and the way we are set up will always leave us vulnerable to the quick counterattack.
We’ve still got a long way to go under Postecoglu

Doubled by wolves....imagine
The thing is, this isn't 2005. Almost every team in the PL are technically proficient from 1-11, and are top-level athletes. Rarely does a team have a proper off-day, especially when they fancy their chances of getting a result, and are properly motivated as a result.

I think we did stage 1 of the rebuild very well. We loosened the shackles and the team responded with positive football. Now stage two has to kick in and we must balance that carefree attacking play with solidity - otherwise we are going to get turned over by well drilled (and genuinely good) teams like Wolves.

What do people mean when they ask for a plan B? We had this against Brentford; we weren't playing well, he made some changes, we won the game. His subs won the game against Brighton too.

We lost a game against a good side who've shown us twice this season that they're no mugs. It happens.

We waste too many chances. We desperately need a clinical goal scorer. God knows where we will find one.

Early goals are so key to how we play, we score first and the opposition opens up and are chasing the game then. We allow them to score first and we are stuck against a low block.
