Personally I think as he is the “top ref” who gets the “top games” he refs without applying the rules to avoid giving yellows or reds. All the pundits crack on about keeping it 11 v 11 but that actually lets the big teams get away with murder and makes it two tier refrereeing. Tomiyasu committed at least ten fouls in the game. Purely on a topping up basis he should have been booked and that makes Johnson’s job in the second half easier. Partey doesn’t look at the ball and does a two handed push on Romero when he hits the post. Without the push it’s a goal therefore it’s a foul therefore it’s a penalty. White barges Venom and blocks him for the Havertz goal. Rules of the game that’s obstruction. The choice made by the ref and VAR to apply a light touch completely costs us the game.Just to say, why would he be standing a couple yards away, in full view of the challenge, and still need to look at a replay to decide if a penalty should be given.
I think it's totally about he was shit scared, let VAR make the decision and then I can go look in slo-mo to see it again.
That wanker is in no way, shape or form fit for purpose as a referee.
