A small thought to warn those already counting our 3 points against Derby. Over the years we have really come a cropper against them and on numerous occasions. I'll start off the examples. In the 1970's we played them away in the FA Cup at the old Baseball Ground. It was an allticket affair and we needed police help to shift derby 'season ticket' holders sitting in our reserved seats. A real nightmare afternoon which really kicked after the game which finished 1-1. Those streets around the ground were like a rabbit warren with agro merchants hassling us all the way to the station. On the way a Spurs supporter got his leg broken by a Police motor bike rider. Relieved and counting on replay win we saw Spurs lead 3-1 with 12 minutes to go in the Wednesday night rematch. Then a lanky dude named Roger Davis dragged them back to 3-3 in normal time before completing his hattrick for a 5-3 win to them! Out we wentEek

Point taken steve, but you also have to remember that in the early 70s, Derby were a magnificent side. The likes of Alan Hinton, Kevin Hector and John McGovern were coming through, supervised by our very own Dave Mackay in defence. And of course they had a decent manager, a certain Mr Brian Clough as I recall.

Weren't they also responsible for our worst ever defeat (8-1 or 8-2) about 30 years ago?

They gubbed us 5-0 in 1969 I think. That was soon after Dave Mackay arrived. The press made a big thing about him playing against Spurs. Afterwards he said he was embarrassed for us!

I saw Dave Mackay at one of those Legends evenings a while back. He said he would have loved to have managed Spurs but the call never came. Instead, he went on to win the league with Derby in 1975, while our directors decided that the best person to replace Bill Nicholson was ex-gooner Terry Neill. And the rest, as they say....

I'd be more wary that we have a tendency to, when looking on the up, to mess up against a team we shouldn't. Not particularly worried about Derby, per se, just some of the players could be treating it as a formality. Sure we'll be fine though

this tie smacks of the likes of fulham away, sunderland aaway and west brom away from this and previous seasons.

A professional, non-arrogant job needed.

I am far more confident now than I would have been when we had BMJ in charge. Dont think Ramos is going to accept players resting on their lorals.

If we play the way we have slowly started to show we can... we will be fine.

I'll drink to that

But even Man U take teams lightly occasionally, and do you think Fergie's all smiles about that? Sometimes it just happens, regardless of the manager's intent, you have to accept that. Let's just hope it's not today

I still don't expect us to automatically win away games, whoever we're playing. Our away record has been pretty bad over the last couple of years.

put simpy, we CANT lose today cause my life wont be worth living(well it will but only cause my wembley ticket camw this morning) it wont matter that ive been fairly reserved in ribbing them for 6 months. theyll all come crawling out of the woodwork to have a go if we lose! and my local will be off limits.
so as i said, we simple CANT lose, for my sake!

Our away form is still better than their home record (just). I am fairly confident about this game although i cant see us stuffing them 3,4-0

This game gives me the heebie-jeebies. I've just had a poor feeling about it. Half our side havn't trained with us all week. As the man said every season we lose to a bottom 3 side away from home. And we're clearly going to have our eyes on other things. Plus we've got so many options now that the players are still getting used to each other. And Derby have put in a couple of decent performances recently and are due a good win against someone that isn't Newcastle.

But thats probably just the unbridled optimist in me talking.

We have 1 win and 6 draws away. They have 1 win and 3 draws at home.
