I think it’s because our midfield can’t transition from defence to attack, they don’t show for the ball in positions where they should if they wanted to progress the play. It’s slow, safe and invites pressure. The day we see someone other than hojbjerg partnering Bissouma/Bentancur and Skipp will be a good day, absolutely sick of him. Cost us with their second goal claiming hand ball, could’ve just stopped the pass through if he’d been more interested in the game.
Granted bentancur is a huge blow! He’s the one that makes the transition.

Those energy drinks that Saint's players were supping in the 2nd half "comfort breaks" must have had some good gear in them

Poor ref, but a draw was fair - we did not look like the top 4 side, and they are fighting for their lives.
There is no excuse.

Pathetic again from this fucking weak defensive side. Whether you think it was a pen or not, it's what you deserve when you decide to sit back and defend with piss poor defensive players. At 3-1 against a team bottom of the league, the game should be dead. The fact that you know it isn't against us, says it all.

Generally, even at 3-1 up, it still looked like 2 teams trying to avoid relegation, not one trying to make CL, the quality of the game was poor.
I'm just so fucking sick of seeing us sit off against teams we should be able to dominate.

3-1 up and then we fell apart! Their manager completely shook it up with those subs ours yet again played into their hands by throwing on defensive players who can't actually defend! At this rate there will be no European football at all! The chasing pack have got it in their hands and if the Geordies get 4th will struggle to stick with them in the future with their financial clout in place.

I have to say that penalty decision was dreadful Sarr doesn't even see Maitland-Niles who takes the ball! Not to even review it by VAR is atrocious and kicks us so badly in the league it looks like mid-table from here on in judging on performances who can say it's not deserved. Spursy weekends just go on and on and piss me off no end like a fool keep returning. Why ex-gooners every f-ing time as well arrrgh!!! Rinse & repeat!

It’s true and he is, you’d think Skipp or hoj would at least try to be proactive though, southampton would’ve been easy to play through if we’d had a cm on who had an ounce of ability to move forward.

I was at the game today and overall I dont think we played that badly, albeit still just boring, and it is a very very low bar. I bare in mind that Southampton were really poor and they had two defenders out. I felt because of that - we should have been pummeling them.

There are absolutely no excuses for us dropping two points, and whilst the penalty wasn't the penalty, I couldn't care less about that - its the capitulation stemming from letting teams come on to us. Happens time and time again. You can blame our defenders too, but if you have part of a team that is weak, then surely you capitalise on the strengths and that is being high up and front foot. YOU DO NOT INVITE THE OTHER TEAM ON TO YOU. I dont think that is too difficult to comprehend.

Good thing about the internationals, is no more Spurs. To be honest, I felt nothing at the game, only went as im in Winchester for the weekend, and to be honest, just want the season to end. Dont give a shite about CL football.
you let teams come onto you and you are taking a chance on a penalty, deflected goal etc.

Like Dana White says in MMA "Don't leave it in the hands of the judges"

We are always playing with fire when we back right off, especially when some players simply can't perform well enough here

The football is dull and boring. We don’t want to attack until we really have to. If we do manage to get top 4, Conte will make out it’s a miracle with this squad, personally I think it will be a miracle due to his negative management and tactics. It will also say more about the competition vying for forth place than it does about us.

can anyone actually say that they enjoy watching the football he serves up

Davies wasn’t Even on the pitch when they scored their first goal. It was Perisic in no man’s land.
Agreed. Davies gets unfair flack despite defending well. It’s no coincidence that results improved after we moved him to LWB. Perisic, however, is a weak defender. I’d rather we player Royal at LWB.

Son and Kane are knackered in the last knockings of every match and they're playing defensively in the middle third. They may as well play to their strengths and let them score a few more goals.

I’m not sure, if you watch his Juventus team they had players like bonnuci and cheilini. They didn’t sit back so deep. I just don’t think the players or coach trust our CBs which is why we sit so deep.
Understandable, I don't trust them either.

I also wouldn't choose to play three of them every single week, with another two defensive types in front of them to try to mitigate the chaos.

Conte needs to be more positive against these teams. We should be dominating possession, but instead we seem to play this really slow counter attacking 3 centre back formation which I just don't think is needed in these games.

I really think that his time is done. He is too stubborn to change to accomodate the players he has. Don't get me wrong if we had more elite players it would work but I think he needs to become more pragmatic and flexible.

It is knee to knee-contact, so understandable that VAR doesn't intervene.

At the minute like you said it’s chaos and we don’t have many other options? Sanchez!

this 'mentality' bullshit excuse is wearing thin.

it's quality, not mentality.

Been obvious for a long time that we carry players in certain positions who are not really good enough if we want to improve. Dier, Hojbjerg, Davies and Lenglet (less of an issue because don't see him here next season) truth be told are squad players who are getting too much game time if we want to progress. Perisic is past his sell by date for this league but again less of an issue with Udogie arriving in the summer. Didn't think Skipp was great today but at 22 and coming back from injuries, think he needs to be given more time. Same with Sarr. Sessegnon still only 22 but just appears it's never going to happen for him at us.

For me, the club need to have an honest conversation this summer regarding the likes Dier, Hojbjerg and Davies and what they see their roles at the club. I don't want to see any of them as regular first team starters next season. These 3 are not going to get better, are not good enough to be starting on a regular basis but for me are ok as squad options for cups.
