Crazy people do not rate him, and would not want him. Would you be saying that 2 years ago? No!

It's not two years ago though is it? He has not proved himself at all in the past couple of seasons, he has the odd moment when he looks like he could be a very good player but most of the time he flatters to deceive. There is a reason why he has lost his place in the England squad and Everton.

Ehh I may be in the minority here but I think he is VASTLY overrated.

Explosive, moments of brilliance, but this is all they are, moments. The kid has no brain what so ever. Exactly what we dont need to solve our creative problems.

Look how frustrated we get with Son... Barkley is alot worse.

I agree, what we need is consistency - a player who can perform at a high level 9 games out of 10. Barkley is nowhere near that.

Those kind of players well and truly oit of our price range and end up at clubs who can afford their wage.

This is a classic Tottenham deal, contract running out, used to the Premier League.

I reckon Poch would work wonders with him to be honest. Look what he's done with Alli, Lallana etc.

Lol that's the point. He's stagnated, with his decision-making showing no signs of improvement. Similar to Oxlade-Chamberlain in that regard.

To be honest people are saying no to this understandably but you need to realise that the players in the echelon above Barkley are top class players who will go to the top teams so we're always gonna struggle to attract them. Barkley is a realistic fit for us because he represents the kind of profile we can attract to this club.

Oh God yes. A change of environment and the positive vibes/good coaching & conditioning at Spurs would do wonders for him. And he's still only 23. Yes.

The talent's clearly there, agree with the earlier post about shades of gazza at times but without making the right decisions it's futile. Coaching can improve that to some degree

Ross Barkley in no rush to sign new deal at Everton as Tottenham eye summer move for unsettled midfielder

Everton are facing a challenge to persuade Ross Barkley to commit to a new deal following a difficult start to his relationship with Ronald Koeman.

He has 18 months remaining on the deal he signed back in the summer of 2014 but talks about renegotiating his terms have, for the time being, been placed on hold. He is in no rush to commit to a long-term deal at this stage.

The situation has pricked Tottenham’s interest but they have not made contact about signing Barkley and there is no prospect of him being sold in January. Everton would be loath to let a player who would command a fee of more than £35million.

Unless we're planning on adapting him to play in the central midfield 2 then just no. He lacks the work ethic and athleticism to play in any of the 3 behind Kane.

I think the plan would be Barkley as a medium/long term Dembele replacement. The great man is 30 in July, and his injury issues continue as we speak. I suspect Barklay's natural position is a bit further back in the pitch than No. 10.

I think the need to replace Dembele will come a lot sooner than we think. I'm kinda on the fence with Barkley as it's hard to tell whether he was just a new fad when he 1st burst on to the scene or if he's now just suffering from playing in a dysfunctional team.

As is to be expected, I suppose, we can be extremely partisan round here. Are we in a rush to write him off? Do you think football fans across the country are saying similarly dismissive things about Dele Alli, for example?

This whole story is just BS put out by his agent to try and get a better deal for his player. We have no interest in him. Nor do any of the other top six clubs.

It's not really about top level players, the large majority accept we cannot attract those, it's more about the type of player - adding Barkley would just be another physical, strong body to go with Sissoko, Wanyama. I think everybody understands that Poch wanted to make us a powerful outfit, but the balance is not quite right at the moment. We need a little more guile and tecnhical ability, and he doesn't offer that.
