Cue mass SC suicide...

Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers is expected to be confirmed as the new Liverpool boss in the next 48 hours.

The clubs are understood to be discussing compensation for the 39-year-old, with Swansea likely to recieve a compensation payment of between £4m and £5m.
Wigan manager Roberto Martinez had been in contention after meeting with owner John W Henry in Miami last week.

Tbh I'm quite surprised about this. I thought he already said no to the job. And I thought signing Sigurdson permanently was a sign that he was staying.

Cracking manager for them I think. If he's given time he can take them back to the very top with an attacking brand of football at Anfield.

Liverpool to finsh above us next season me thinks.

Pretty bad news, either he'll be a success and greatly improve Liverpool or his career will be destroyed. Another option off the table for us.

If we go back 12 months and replace Liverpool for Chelsea, and Rodgers for AVB, this is a carbon copy.

Judging by the reactions of Liverpool fans I know, and those that have been spot polled by various media outlets Rodgers was pretty far down the list of replacements for Kop King Kenny that the fans wanted. As he has no prior links with the club it'll be interesting to see how much time they give him.

Not with their existing squad. Shit news if true, but I don't expect them to be pushing top 4 until at least the following season.

Pretty gutted about this. Convinced that he's going to prove a top manager - one that would have suited us perfectly. Ironically, with their current personnel he might not suit Liverpool so well. They don't have too many of the technical kind of players that will be needed to fulfill Rodgers philosophy. So long as they give him time and are willing to spend significant amounts on suitably intelligent and talented players (Van Gaal's presence will help here) then he should do well. If not he could struggle. I think he'd have done brilliantly with our squad though. It's a shame.

Career suicide for Brendan. Surprised he made that comment about Chelsea and 'trying to build a career not ruin it', this will be worse for him. Terrible move.

The Scouse fans aren't clever enough to give him the time he will need.

Well if he has got the job I'm sure he'll be given 20x the amount he's had to spend at Swansea, Reading and Watford. Liverpool's squad is still pretty good - it was tactics rather than ability/ where they failed this season IMO.

A few smart signings for him this summer and a good start and Liverpool will be right up there with us IMO.

But if they do?

They cant. They are incapable. If Rodgers is manager with Van Gaal as DOF, by Christmas Rodgers will be out on his ear and Van Gaal will be in charge.

It's not in their make up. You've only got to look at the Dalglish and Hodgson scenario, both had identical records in their first 20 games (approx) yet Hodgson was a **** and Dalglish was the saviour. Honestly the Scouse fans are a different breed. If they don't win their first 5 games they will probably be singing for KKKenny again.

He said he'd take the job if they offered it, then gave a reason why he was too good to have to apply and be interviewed for it. You always felt they'd end up offering him the job after that (assuming, correctly, that they'd struggle to get anyone more prestigious).

Fuck off.

He has to have a complete overhaul there now, it wont work. Can they even afford it?

I would assume he will go for 433 and total football. That means they need the following:

1 or 2 new strikers: Carroll and Suarez, neither of them are lone front man material.

2 or 3 wingers: Suarez maybe to wide left?

Midfield becomes reliant on Adam, Gerrard and Lucas, decent i will admit.

Defence and keeper are good enough.

However it's a complete change in philosophy and a lot needing spent, can they do it? Can see this backfiring on Rodgers AND Liverpool.
