1_11 shouldn't be but all other numbers are up for debate.

I understand what your saying and why your saying it but that kinda make the whole thing pointless though?

I am not a fan of ego-numbers anyway.

I would like to see a return to proper positional numbers, no names on the back.

Obviously that's not going to happen, but i do like seeing the old photos and clips of the team minus the ego's

No. Great servant to the club and should be remembered. But don't like retiring numbers. When a young player is given a number they should be told that was the number Jimmy Greaves or Glenn Hoddle wore. They should get pride from that.

Shouldn't be retired just saved for his son or even his grandsons.

I pray we're asking the same question about Kanes shirt number when he retires.

Don't believe in retiring shirt numbers, but can see it beneficial to make it sacred for 5 or 10 years to honor a legend.
Much more for making a shirt number a tradition, like a trend giving 26 to our best academy produced centre back.

Numbers can become quite a special thing. Hate the idea of retiring them.

Klinsmann turned the number 18 shirt into something a bit special for us. Good to see Kane wearing it. I like the idea of future Spurs strikers wanting to follow in their footsteps.

Utd also have it with the number 7 shirt. Cantona and Beckham wore it.

There are better ways to honour players than retiring their shirt numbers.

Continuing the honour of wearing the shirt is nice, I prefer that idea. I'd wondered who had worn 26 for us before King, a little different from the 10's, 18's etc as not many would have.

few numbers have had great players, or ones that have been synonymous with the number in the squad number era:

14- Ginola, Modric
18 - Klinsmann, Defoe
26 - King

Must be others too

Stupid idea. So are squad numbers. Give me 1 to 11 any day.
God, I'm such a dinosaur.

14s a bit of a classic really though starting off with Cruyff. We haven't got one at the moment it seems...wonder who's in line for it?

I don't think it was as quite set in stone as "we are saving 26 for Ledley's son", it was an answer (I think) that Levy gave at a meeting with the supporters trust when the question was asked about retiring Ledley's number. He gave an answer in the negative and then went on to mention about "Ledley has a son and who knows what would happen if he were to come through".

I don't really agree with retiring numbers anyway and Ledley doesn't seem the type to really be bothered by that kind of thing, Chelsea will retire Terry's number, and he'll be all over it because he's that type.

I prefer statues, definitely statues.
