I've said in the match thread, but Rose going into midfield did in part change the game for 5-10 mins before the equaliser. With him and Lamela in there we had a bit of fight and scrap and started to look like we weren't going to go down pitifully like midweek. This also rubbed off on others for this little spell, Sissoko started putting himself about, Trippier, Vertonghen, even Eriksen I saw scrapping for a few loose balls. Nothing remarkable but we were competing and were definitely showing a bit more before the penalty. You cant say that had any real direct effect on it, but at least we were showing something and had a little more impetus and desire and started getting into them.

After the equaliser he epitomised more than anyone the team losing it's head and not playing smart, but I'd credit Poch for the changes and the initial effect. I had a lot to say in midweek about him doing nothing to try and change any facet or pattern to the game, it's only fair to highlight when he does make changes (even if, maybe, they weren't entirely by design) and it did have a bit of a galvanising effect.

How people can criticise Trippier and not rose is criminal. They had a cb playing rb and Rose did not get at him once, no balls in the box and he is supposed to be an offencive wing back.

Sissoko with another great performance defenitleyMotM for me. He is seriously in the running for Player of the Year for us and is quickly becoming one of my favorite players. He plays much better and is more dangerous when he is given freedom to bomb box-to-box. We seem to have replaced one Mousa with another Moussa.

Lloris 8
Trippier 5
Toby 7
Sanchez 6
Verts 7.5
Rose 7
Wanyama 6

Eriksen 7
Son 6.5
Kane 7

Lamela 7.5
Llorente 6

There is a serious lack of movement when we have the ball at the back which results in slower passing at the back, which feeds less movement up top. Rinse and repeat - we need to move the ball much quicker. First 15 minutes Arsenal looked like they wanted it more than us, as most opponents do when we have played recently. Glad the likes of Kane, Rose and Lamela gave it to them a bit 2nd half. We were a bit lucky to get a draw in the end despite dominating most of the game. We look tired and have no spark offensively, and the lack of a pre- season and no new signings in two windows is starting to bite. Having Moura, Dele, Dier all back soon and fresh for the run in could be a blessing. And what has KWP got to do to get a game when Aurier and Trippier are consistently so bad this season? Trippier used to assist a lot and put killer balls into the box, but his crossing is pretty woeful these days and he offers little defensively.

Not sure about our own ratings (other than our fullbacks being horrendous) but I do know that, after how he celebrated right in front of me and our fans, I won’t be sorry if Ramsay suffers a career ending injury which scuppers his move to Juve. Maybe lose a foot to a runaway lawnmower.

Sissoko was superb today yet again.

Lloris and Jan deserves equal status as Sissoko for their match-saving moments during Auba's penalty.

Rose was a bloody timebomb in that central role. Pleaae dont ever play him there anymore Poch.
Am I the only one that, when squinting slightly, can see Rene from ‘Allo, ‘allo in your avatar?

But Rose is twice the defender imo If he isn't getting forward effectively you can count his defensive works much more solid. It's not the fault of Rose he got asked to play midfield -put himself about and we managed to wrestle a point.

harsh ratings here. But for Sanchez's horrible gaffe we were level at the half and had the better chances. 2nd half was chaotic all around.

Agreed. Thought we had control of the game throughout the first half and should have been ahead at halftime.

Second half was a massive scrap but that’s because it meant so much. It was a proper dog fight ruined somewhat by the ref’s constant blowing up.

Rose was only put DM because the attacking move was Verts to wingback. It was high risk and almost had both high reward and high cost. But I like the boldness and despite his turnovers won’t blame Danny who put in a real shift as did Trippier.

Doomsday postponed, just about. Rot stopped.
MOM Sissoko 7.......Really wanted the ball and used it.
Lloris...............7........Yet another penalty save. No cock ups- One good save.
Trippier...........6........Gave us good width but wasted the ball mainly.
Verts,Toby .....6........Steady though not much pressre
HK....................5........Not really in it, innit. Good penalty
Sanchez..........5........ Fatal error.OK otherwise.
Rose................5.........Thought he was Roy of the Rovers but discovered he wasn't.
Eriksen............4........Played well within himself. Very very well within himself.
Son..................4........Lost focus with return of HK
Wanyama........3........Very little contribution. If he was fit he wants dropping and/or selling.

Most we deserved and a vital draw with our nearest rivals.
Goalless draw v BVB will do then compose ourselves for next weekend.

It was either Rose or Skipp because Wanyama was done before the game kicked off. I understand why it couldnt be Skipp, so yeah props to Poch I guess.

However, and I dont want to beat a dead horse, the fact that Poch and Levy let the squad get to this point is shocking.

It wasn't great from us - but we were not worse than Arsenal. I listened on BT and I thought the commentary was incredibly biased towards Arsenal - shockingly poor in fact. Perhaps some TV viewers were influenced by this.

Everyone forgetting the goaline tackle from Janstraight from the penalty save?

I don't usually criticise Poch but 3 centre backs with a holding Wanyama in front was never going to work. If you play 3 at the back the midfield has to be more dynamic. Holding player only works when there is space in behind

I felt weirdly emotional watching that. Pochs “Magic-man” quote seemed apt and seeing Rose in CM was the icing on the cake for me such thats its become tiring watching him get a tune out of players that are either on their way out or are clearly below what we need to mount a serious challenge for any trophy. Top-4 with no squad investment in over a year and no stadium for even longer will be a miracle given our run-in.

Above average (mostly due to effort) - Hugo, Sissoko, Jan, Toby, Harry, Rose
Below average - everyone else

This was another struggling performance, we are clearly lacking a bit of confidence and badly misfiring in certain areas of the pitch.

As I said at HT, the main problem for me is up top. Our defence, our midfield, our wide options, our use of the ball, our off the ball work, all of it can be criticised, but if you have no platform to work off in the final third then things become very hard. Kane is such a good footballer he can still look a threat the odd time in a game, and stick away a penalty under pressure, but he's not holding the ball up, running channels, in the box at the right time, working hard phase after phase after phase. He's mainly a passenger at the moment, clearly nowhere near 100%. Son seems to be trying to compensate for this by running about even more here there and everywhere, often attempting to both lead the line and drop deep, but it just seems to be tying him in knots.

This was a much cagier and disciplined Arsenal team than we usually face, who allowed us plenty of the ball but we couldn't find anyway forward against them. We then found ourselves 1-0 down in spacktacular circumstances. The ball runs for Kane and he has a great sight at goal, for some unknown reason he decides twenty gazillion more touches are needed, he disappears up his own arse and loses the ball, one big boot forward, Sanchez tries to nick it in front of his man, only kills it for him, he passes it forward, the rest of our defence is nowhere to be seen, inexplicably, and it's a cool finish after that tbf. But ultra generous, again.

We then had a long spell of what we have seen already this week. Some tippy, some tappy, and then often resorted to aimless long balls when we ran out of ideas. A severe lack of quality, a lack of ideas, and a lack of tempo to our play.

However, just when it looked like we were going to go down without mustering any resistance for the second time in a matter of days, something changed in the match I felt. Lamela came on, and Poch changed shape and put Rose into central midfield. These two immediately brought a bit of nasty that was lacking in the centre of the park (from back to front). Lamela got a booking almost immediately and just kept chasing and harrying and got a couple of good involvements, the first thing Rose did was launch into a couple of tackles. Our football didn't really get any better, but it seemed to get the crowd up for a few mins and others fed off it. Sissoko went from workmanlike to throwing his weight around, Trippier and Vertonghen on the flanks pressed aggressively, even Eriksen I saw competing hard a few times. There wasn't a great deal of threat still, but at least we didn't look defeated and had a few minutes with a better intensity to our play.

The penalty was still a bit out of the blue, having said all that, but it was a gift greatly received and at 1-1 you'd hope the momentum was with us and we could build pressure and have a good go looking for the winner. However, disappointingly, I felt we then went through to the end of the game in a wild fashion. No pressure, no attempt to build up play, just aimlessly hoofing the ball forward in a rushed manner really. Any attempts to get the ball down were ruined immediately by a sloppy error it seemed, and we looked really open at the back two or three times. We then had to ride our luck, it is a soft penalty but Vertonghen makes an error and then Sanchez ran the risk by getting wrong side and then putting his hands on him. Thank fuck a bit of fortune was on our side.

I'll end by saying basically what I said earlier in the week, and last weekend. If you don't have eleven players ready to put in a shift then you are going to struggle against anyone in the PL. Currently we look weary and down on confidence and quality. Poch needs to find the solutions, even if it involves making some pretty left-field calls. We look like we're clinging on currently. Another big test midweek to come........

Lloris - Did all he had to do competently, including the vital penalty save at the end.

Alderweireld - Awful use of the ball, not the most convincing defending either at times especially for the goal.

Sanchez - Didn't do well for the goal, but how has he been left one vs one? Got caught a bit for the penalty as well, it has to be said. Another who didn't use the ball particularly well.

Vertonghen - Made a vital block on the follow up to the penalty, but apart from that I didn't think he had a good game. Some poor use of the ball at times and made some bad defensive reads, particularly first half, that he was lucky to get away with.

Trippier - Defensively was solid. Offered some width but, bar the delivery for the offside goal, his use of the ball at key moments was very wasteful.

Sissoko - Worked his bollocks off and got better as the game went on, a couple of crucial recoveries in the second half.

Wanyama - I felt he was ok, but looked like someone who hasn't played any football consistently for an age now. Didn't have much chance tracking back for the goal. Did have some sloppy passes, but he does that on his best days.

Rose - Offered some width but didn't get into the game a huge amount as they doubled up on him quite well. As mentioned, I thought his switch to CM initially was a benefit. He then lost his head late in the game and had no focus to his play.

Eriksen - Seems to have very little left in the tank currently. Wasted maybe the best chance of the game.

Son - Has upped his effort levels, trying to do the work of two men up top, but the football is suffering for it.

Kane - Thanks for sticking away the penalty, but we cant just have a handful of involvements in the game and then just...... nothing.

Subs:
Lamela - Had an impact initially.

Llorente - The ball was vaguely smashed in his direction often, had a couple of decent knockdowns but so far from goal to be of any use.
