Might want it but I think we'll struggle attract or identify a better striker than Son or Richarlison.
I doubt it. Son isn’t a striker and Richy is so hot and cold.

I mean in terms of an actual striker, Toney, Solanke in our league alone would be better fits but I’m pretty certain we could scout and sign someone better than that

I like shiny new toys but I don't see how anyone watches Toney and Solanke and can be sure they're better than Son and Richarlison. Son and Richarlison have achieved far more in the game.

They both have better goals per minute this season than Solanke and Toney.

Yep playing in a better more attacking team.

Son is better than them sure but he’s 32 and not really a striker especially against a low block.

New top quality WF & Striker needed in summer, simple as that.

When we counter, we don't pick out his runs often enough or early enough. After his first couple of games, I was optimistic that would change as his new teammates get used to him, but it hasn't so far.
When we come against a low block, he doesn't seem to offer anything that our other options don't, so I'm unsure why he's consistently starting games where we know this will be the situation.

Send him back ! There is a reason Chelsea were happy to get rid and his club in Germany are happy to sell for what is a pittance these days.

Our pacy options in order of quality are Son, Johnson, and Werner.
Our non-pacy options are Kulu, Solomon, and Gil.

Our issues are with our non-pacy options.
We need those sort of players where the ball sticks when we play out and are comfortable beating a man in a one on one situation.
If we replaced Solomon and Gil with, for example, Williams and Olise suddenly Werner and Kulu become third choices which is about right.

We should buy Werner but not as a starter and at £15 million it's about right.

He has his uses but he isn't good enough to start and we have Manor Soloman (not 100% convinced he's actually real) who can be back up left winger. 15m and over 100k a week can go towards a top LW or a striker which means we can put Son as a starting LW. The loan has been a success but we need to focus on a couple of players who can improve the first team and have our existing players as backups
Posted this back on 31st march and nothing has changed in my opinion. He just isn't good enough to be a starter and we have enough players who can be rotation options there.
We need better starters and need those funds (particularly wages) to go towards a lw/striker/no.6

I've been thinking for a few weeks that signing this guy on a permanent deal would be a mistake. He's got too many obvious flaws to his game and at his age he's not going to improve them.

I'd take him on loan for another year as a squad player but signing him permanently or expecting him to be first choice will be a bad idea.

I have always been on the fence with him and if anything leaning to the don’t sign but with that being said I don’t think one should judge him too harshly on yesterdays performance.

The whole team was off the pace and he was certainly no exception. It has been mentioned 100 times in this thread but he will never ever be clinical so criticising him for his lack of efficiency in front of goal seems counterproductive. If he was consistent and clinical he would not be available for £12 mil. What he offered us a week ago is going to be no less than what he offers us tomorrow or the day after so the question is, is that enough for the money involved?

Judging him on something we know he isn’t good at doesn’t help anyone, he needs to be judged on the other elements he does bring to the table. And within that one also has to take into consideration the performance of the team as a whole.

Werner was poor yes but he wasn’t alone in that and it doesn’t take away the effect he has made in some of our other previous games nor the effect he will have going forward.

Tbh I think it’s better that we see all sides of him now rather then find out next season after we have purchased him.

For me im still leaning towards not getting him as I’d rather put the money towards a younger player BUT I still think there is also benefit in retaining him. Whilst I think he will struggle against some teams others he will be useful as he has already shown.

Still standing by this, but it’s becoming more and more obvious that our priorities should be across the front 3.

We need to buy starters, we’ve already got the ‘squad players’ in our starting line up ffs.
Think we are in a position of having a front three that really need quicker progression of the ball to get it in space in front of them, but we have a transition from back through midfield that is currently quite deliberate. I think some of the comments from Maddison and Ange allude to the need to be a bit braver in moving the ball and taking a little more risk, which I assume also means with a bit more urgency.

He has qualities but thinks too much when it comes to taking shots at goal, and gets badly positioned even for them because either he shoots weakly from too far out or in closer and he tries to shoot through a thicket of our players and opposing team defenders. And positioning his body to shoot he alerts the opposition goalkeeper and defenders that that is what he's about to do.

When Newcastle United went in at half time 2-0, had Werner taken his golden opportunities it would have been 2-2 or even just 2-1 and recoverable by Spurs. Consider, too, that the second opportunity arose from a lovely penalty area cutback from Maddison and would have meant 'an assist' which would have kept Maddison more focused rather than him faffing about and as usual, getting distracted and being substituted frustratingly in the second half.

Whenever a corner is awarded against Spurs I fear a goal is imminent. Whenever Werner bombs up the wing and heads for the opposition penalty area I never think that 'Here comes a goal for Spurs'. He's not solely to blame but is associated with the kind of predictable shortcomings Spurs have been displaying for a while. I'm happy to see him on-loan and in the squad until May, yet have little confidence that signing him permanently would prove a good investment.

His cons will always outweigh his pros.

A very useful player on his day, who a lot of managers have clearly liked and thought they could get a tune out of, but there're far too many flaws to his game.

I like Timo’s effort but I just feel his shortcomings and averageness rub off on the team.

You’re only as strong as your weakest link and when he’s constantly missing chances, losing the ball and smacking crosses out for goal kicks you can almost see the rest of the team’s heads drop.

It’s a no from me also. As a stop gap he’s done ok but at his age he’s not going to improve the most crucial aspect which is hitting the back of the net. With Son you’ll bet he’ll score 9 times out of 10 but with Werner it’s 9 times out of 10 he’ll miss. If he took one of those chances against Newcastle I’m sure it would’ve been a different game. The only reason I can see us getting him is because his fee is cheap but that shouldn’t be the reason to get him. I don’t consider him a first teamer and his wages will be high.
