Even though I was supportive of his signing I’ve been on the fence as to how successful he can be once being first choice.

With no European football and Kane leaving this season is his chance. Hopefully he’s now past a few physical and mental issues.

If he continues as he has the last 2 games, top four has to be very achievable.

Kulu, madders Johnson are all capable of double figures. Madders might even be on 10 now if he didn’t get injured, Kulu is on 5. Richir is more than capable of 10 at least.

Firmino rarely got double figures every season; if Richy’s offering more (and I’d say he is) then the players around him can thrive.

They had both Salah and Mane who clocked up loads. If we only have Son who scores regularly (and even he often goes off the boil) I think it's an issue. Plus Firmino did an awful lot to create space for the attackers. Richarlison does a bit of that but he's not on the same level in terms of crating opportunities for the rest of the team. Massive recency bias here

Small sample size and obviously I could be wrong, but it's more than stats you need to look at. Need to consider what a low scoring CF offers to the team and what he brings out of others. If Richy doesn't score more than 10 (which is what I took double figures to mean) then I don't think it's great for us. Plus him playing means Son (our main attacker) is pushed out wide, no noubt affecting his goal return. Anyway, having to reply to everyone disagreeing with me makes it look like I hate him and want him to fail which isn't the case. Just not as optimistic as others about his role in the team.

He has never failed to put in a shift. As shocking as it might seem, so many individuals who are paid to "play" football don't always do this and after a defeat go on twitter or the likes and comment we go again or some other shite. He's not Kane, or VDV, or even Bale. But he always try's and he will always work hard. Honestly believe we should be offering him a contract extension as there is nobody else out there who will give the same. We won't replace his effort for any price and if we back him I think he'll be amazing.

"What does your optimism have to do with anything" is the weirdest question I've seen on here. It's his thread and people are talking about what they hope/expect to see from him. I'm sorry if you want to come here to solely see comments saying "wow, what a performance" or "let's hope he keeps going". I'm giving an opinion on his suitability as a striker in this team based on years of watching him. Those responses are as boring/irrelevant to me as mine is to you.

I think most Spurs fans are sceptical of Richarlison’s long term future at the club.

The positivity comes from him being the player with the most upside in the squad. When he has been in the team (prior to our injury crisis), he has been the weakest link.

Richy scoring 3 in 2 after the same surgery that Son did after last season is massively encouraging and could have a big impact on our season, regardless of his long term future.

I'd written him off tbh. Still supportive of him, but never really expecting much.

Happy he's getting goals and hopefully it really was just the injury that was holding him back at the start of the season.
