We can’t screw around with loans. I can’t think of a single successful loan that’s been converted to a permanent deal, and there have been many over the last few years (Ndombele, Lo Celso, Gil, Reguilon…). It’s especially dangerous with a player who’s running down his contract.

If Juve are the top choice, we need to work on a swap or part exchange. We’re reported to have an interest in Iling-Junior and Soule, so there are options for us. Paratici obviously has the inside track so they’re probably the ideal club to negotiate with TBH.

Not a fat lot of other options unfortunately. Obviously that is far from ideal but neither is keeping a player who wants to go and we don't see in our future.
I feel a lot of European clubs have properly been taking the piss with the "we're skint" act for about 16-18 months now. IMHO

I agree a Soule swap would be interesting but that doesn't help replacing him.

copying this over from the Lloyd Kelly thread.
So that'll be another loan with the club not taking the option on. They will try a cheap deal though.

Oh well, hopefully we can bring someone in to replace

On the surface it seems that PEH has certain expectations of the club he wants to join, which is ok, the problem being only a couple of top clubs want him, and are pleading poverty, rightly or slyly.
They simply don't want him enough as a back up option to pay our valuation.
That's my onions, could be wrong.

Or they genuinely don't have the money. Juve really are skint. I know these clubs seem to keep finding a few quid down the back of the sofa when it suits them but it is a problem that they are only kicking down the road.

If they don't have the funds then they should part-exchange us one of their other assets. We're not a charity.

I don't know why you are being defensive about it. he hasn't gone there and won't unless it suits us.

I'm just pointing out there is interest, and the reason he hasn't gone is the money.

Hard to judge the tone of the written message mate, I'm not trying to be defensive and I'm not even trying to reply to you directly but just commenting on what you've said. I get what you're saying and understand they're skint. I hope a compromise solution can be found somehow that everyone's happy.

Ha just as you mention the money down the back of the sofa reports are coming out of Italy currently is that they are trying to hijack Napoli's Lazar Samardžić deal who is a very exciting very highly rated AMC. It would cost them around €20 mil ether now or in the summer. It will be interested to see how this plays out, some of those reporting it are questionable but some are reasonably reliable so hard to tell how much truth is in it. If they did get him there is no chance they would have anything left for anyone unless they try and shift Soulé and Kostic to make some money back.

Well obviously the best option is to sell him elsewhere. Then it's a loan with obligation, followed by a loan with an option but in every case PEH has to want to go to that club. Of course we will do what we can to make the first one happen and then look at the other options. It may well be that none of the options presented will be acceptable and he'll stay.

Would mean though there is cash available to bring in a replacement? Unless that would be a loan with obligation/option also.

Obviously he is not a perfect fit for Ange but with Lo Celso out and Pape and Biss on international duty and the question marks over the fitness of Bentancur it looks like we could do with him until summer.

If a loan with option is the only thing that's on the table I'd be happy enough keeping him. He's absolutely bullet proof and does a decent job higher up the pitch and doesn't cause any fuss. The only other possible thing I can see is deal involving Illing Jnr but that seems to have gone cold pretty quickly.

No transfer to a high profile club is going to be reported by modern day journalists without a rival club/s also being in the running.

I’ve never understood the With Obligation bit. Is it just a way of delaying the payment?
Sometimes it's purely a delay to payment, but sometimes certain clauses need to be met to trigger the obligation. For example:
Obligation to buy if the team qualify for Champions League.
Obligation to buy if the team avoids relegation / wins promotion.
Obligation to buy if the player makes a certain number of appearances / starts.

I also said rightly pleading poverty, but yeah, it's just a shame as he would suit Italian football, and Juve fit that stature profile he's clearly after.

Calling it now, think we'll end up loaning Hojbjerg to Juventus late in the window and getting Jordan Henderson in on loan to replace him. Call me Quasimodo but I have a hunch.

Haha I had that same thought. Could see us letting PEH go if the right offer comes in for him or even a loan with an obligation.

If we can't find a suitable replacement/CM option now I could see a stopgap until Summer. If we're looking at those options why not bring Luka back for the final 6 months of his deal and give him a proper send off!

That all sounds a bit silly to me. We don't need to loan someone in and loan out Hojbjerg. He isn't a great fit but we also don't desperately need to let him go either. We can wait until summer. It will be a tough month or so until Bissouma and Sarr return but then we should be good.
