Southampton fan (and season ticket holder) in my office couldn't believe PEH's performance yesterday, he didn't think he was capable of that at all.

Like Spurs supporters who didn’t think Carrick was all that and used to say “Yeah but what does he do“

Not the brightest....

It's the one area of the pitch were pace doesn't really matter. It's all about speed of thought (the old phrase 'the first 5 yards are in his head') and how quickly he closes down. This allows him to make interceptions or tackles as soon as the opposition receive the ball. He did that untold times yesterday.

I do think pace is important but do agree that speed of thought is also vital. I did say that he seemed intelligent and its that intelligence that stands out in his positional play and anticipation as he showed yesterday.

Maybe I am judging him on the Everton game but to be honest everyone was shit.

He was excellent and orchestrated the defence in their positional play pretty well

Don't think it's any coincidence that he looked so good in an orthodox DM role today in the middle of a CM3. He was breaking stuff up and driving forward when appropriate. He was also dropping between the CBs to allow the wingbacks to get forward. The games where he's been poor have been when he was used in a Pivot and instructed to chase the ball about and try to make turn overs. That was leaving the defensive duties to Winks or Sissoko which always seemed pretty daft to me. Keep him in this role and he'll become an outstanding DM for us in the true sense of the word.

Our starting midfield should be Hojberg, Sissoko, Ndombele. Yesterday was a soccer exhibition.

He is playing with better players and can play his own game now rather than covering aspects of other player's game. He looked weaker against Southampton because he still had to do other people's jobs like he was last season.

Thriving and would be buzzing if he maintains this form as he seems a fantastic professional and passionate.

Looked better with the physical presence of sissoko next to him rather than winks. Shame we aren’t going to get another defensive midfielder in because if we did we would be strong in there.

Blinder yesterday.

I wasn’t sure of his touch and passing range, but if he plays anything like that more often than not he’s gonna he fkin massive.

it helps that he doesn’t fall into the temptation of pissing about with it unproductively with Winks, but this is more about him... his reading of the game and spatial awareness... what a ball for Serge

Bossed the midfield and leads the league in number of passes atm.

Imagine Saints fans were saying he's dodgy at passing. What a joke. His passing is actually one of the strongest parts of his game. He's not gonna be spraying 60 yard cross field balls onto a wingers toe but in terms of getting it and passing quickly through the lines this guy has that in abundance. He definitely looks better as a single pivot rather than being in a double pivot and having to press higher up the field.

As others have said, I look forward to seeing the Lo Celso/Hojbjerg/NDombele dream midfield.

His passing is superior to Winks’. No doubt in my mind.

Looks an intelligent player who enjoys the abrasive aspects of the game, reads the game well, has a positive influence on those around him and seems to lead by example. His passing is more than adequate given that profile of player.

At 25, and for about 18m, that is a brilliant signing.

I was worried after Everton when he was frankly atrocious, but the optimist in me said you can’t judge after one game. He’s improved every game since and was superb yesterday - I expected the breaking up of play and the ball winning, I didn’t expect the passing range and intelligent use of the ball, culminating in an inch perfect pass for Aurier’s goal. It really bugged me that people wanted to blame the defending for that one, it’s just a great overlap and a great ball

The whole team was miles off against Everton. It was the worst game we’ll play all season, just not sharp after a basically non-existent pre-season.

Team is certainly starting to buzz now and PEH is just so much better than we probably all expected him to be. Not the most glitzy of signings maybe but a leader and absolutely full of energy. You can tell he just loves it, loves winning, loves battling and will do anything for his team-mates. There was one point in the first half where serge made a sliding tackle and PEH celebrated it with a double fist pump like he’d scored a winning penalty.

We haven’t even seen him Lo Celso and Ndombele all together and in full flow. It’s going to be pretty awesome.

Lets hope he can produce that on a consistent basis because he’s going to be playing a lot.
