This player has a release clause, pay it and he is your player, don’t pay it and you don’t sign him, he signs for a club that pays the release clause.

No you can waste time talking about valuation because of this and valuation because of that but that’s wasting your time and my time.

It really is quite simple - pay the release clause or piss off
So why are they still talking to us then? We’re clearly not going to pay the entire transfer fee in one go - because it will mean we do no other business this window and because no other clubs do that.

There is a deal to be done otherwise they would have fucked us off properly.

So, well, you’re wrong.

Exactly. If there was zero hope why would we spend so long negotiating and why would we be having talks with us all week?
Surely if the answer is release clause or fuck off, then we wouldn’t be at the table with them

No offence to either of the above posters but I think there has been more than several occasions in Spurs history where we've spent weeks talking and the transfer doesn't occur at the end.

There's also been plenty of times we've signed a player too to be fair

Nobody’s right or wrong on whether this has been a worthwhile pursuit till he’s either holding the shirt or not past the deadline. We probably won’t know for sure whether the month long haggle achieved anything or not.

It’ll be undisclosed at our end if we do get it done I’d imagine although they would presumably say they got the clause even if it wasn’t in full in one lump.

If Levy doesn’t get this done he’d better have another rabbit or two to pick out of his mysterious hat. There’s very limited support inside the stadium and on the muppetweb for the current options in this position

I think the thing is there's no guarantee in the future any club will be willing to pay the release fee at any point, especially as a lump sum, which is intentionally put at highest valuation of player.

If another club offers something close to the financial value of the release, people on the financial side of the clubs business are going to see that as attractive even if isn't a contractual 'trigger', and it's going to require explanation as to why its better to keep hold of the player than take money close to the value of what has been set by the club as a willing sale price previously.

In this case a wild card factor is also that if City has a buyback then keeping the player/agent onside is important, as they could try to coordinate City making a quick buck on buy-back-then-loan-with-future-purchase (very similar to how we purchased Romero). Luckily for sporting City are rich enough not to be significantly motivated to do this.

Yes, talking with the club doesn't guarantee a deal but the fact that there still is talking shows that the deal is far from dead. That's the point people are making.

Has it been mentioned previously who Conte's first choice RWB is if it isn't Porro?

So fun to watch, hard to find a more technical WB. For some reason I feel that our RBs would fail that assist he had yesterday.

He was so good. Absolutely dominated the whole of the right flank like none of our other RWB are capable of.

Apparently he was convinved to take a more technical RWB (posted by Jacobs or KP or similar I don't remember), so perhaps someone more physical who isn't known for technical skills, maybe Dumfries.

Do we think he could adjust to a back 4 if we had the right set up? ie. 3 midfielders like Liverpool’s system or a double pivot in a 4231 which covers his runs forward?

Important to know that from a long term perspective.
