I think Brad was a few games short of breaking the most consecutive appearance record, once he had that it wasn't long Hugo was no1.
Iirc.
I liked Friedal, but it was odd for AVB to prioritise his personal record like that, during the same month that he locked Jenas out and completely alienated VDV.

Also made bog all sense as Brad never left his line and Hugo was a sweeper/keeper that you needed for AVB's really high line.

He wasn't the full deck that boy, him forcing Rafa out was horrible.

What did he do to VDV? I thought he left because of relationship issues or something

He didn't force Rafa out. Just told him he wasn't going to be a guaranteed starter.

Rafa has since admitted he should have stayed and fought for his place but his ego got the better or him.

Ahh then I'm mistaken, my apologies. My memory playing tricks.
"It was a little to do with everything, it was private things, but also when what's his name [Villas-Boas] came and said to me 'you're not my number one' and I had played two years, unbelievable. So for me it was really strange that he said that to me. So then I said, 'well, it's better to leave' and that is what happened."

I think "wasn't going to be a guaranteed starter" is putting it far too softly.

AVB signed Sigurdsson and told Rafa "You're not my number one", before Siggurdsson had done anything to earn what had very deservedly been Rafa's spot for the previous two years. The season before, Sigurdsson had been decent for Swansea, but had not shown anything like the same quality as Rafa had. Surely Sigurdsson should have had to do something to earn it, rather than Rafa being dropped...especially when you look at how AVB treated Friedel vs. Lloris (Lloris was the superior player and far more suited to the system, but outrageously had to wait until October to make his PL debut).

Rafa didn't hand in a transfer request straight away. He continued to graft during pre-season, then played two league games (sub appearances), before leaving during August. Sigurdsson didn't exactly hit the ground running and only ended up starting 12 PL games all season. Even during the first two games, it was painfully obvious that the team was missing Rafa while he warmed the bench. AVB waited until Rafa was out of the door before accepting that Sigurdsson wasn't good enough to be a regular starter...but then we had no alternative no.10 in the squad...and AVB still benched Sigurdsson. Had AVB taken a more similar approach to the one he took for Lloris and Vertonghen (who both actually deserved to start, but didn;t), AVB would surely have quickly come to realise that Sigurdsson wasn't at the same level as Rafa, so should remain as the understudy.

This is the same manager who made a complete mess of managing our CBs:
Pushed King into retirement. Told him he he was only in his plans if he could regularly play two matches per week.
Started Kaboul ahead of Vertonghen and Dawson, even though it was clear he was an inferior player.
Told Dawson he wasn't suitable for his system, before giving him a chance to try...only to restore him to the starting line-up midway through the season and find that he actually improved our defence (despite being a bit slow for the high line).
Vertonghen at LCB with King / Gallas alternating at RCB would have been immense.

Lloris will not go to Lazio, despite the last attempt of the Roman leaders this Wednesday morning
Lazio offered a 2-year contract + 1 year as an option.
Refusal of Hugo LLoris
The goalkeeper will be open to offers until the end of the transfer window and could stay at Tottenham

As much as we need players out Hugo Lloris should be afforded all the grace in the world to make his decision on his future and if that means staying for the season then so be it.

10 years of service with many of this being club captain ought to mean something.

We might find it a little easier if we stop negotiating with teams our players have no interest in, at least the third time this summer alone.

I know it's easy to just give the club a bit of a kicking when a deal doesn't work out but this isn't it. Hugo is available for probably no more than a nominal fee and these are the offers we're getting, what more can be done?

if he wants to be the number1 goalkeeper somewhere, how many teams that can afford his wages are looking for one?
