it's these absolute statements that I don't get. this isn't Football Manager, Willian + Lamela is not the only possible solution to Bale leaving. what if one or both of them don't want to come, should we jack it all in then?

I see what you mean. But I think what people mean is would take two signings of this magnitude to fill some of the void left by Bale - more adequately.
It just so happens that these two look available to an extent and one looks similar to Bale.

I think its dreamland.
If Bale goes, we will attempt to sign either one of them, but not both. The rest of the money will pay for 1 6th of the stadium and would make it easier for us to raise finance.

Ok fair do's but no ITK has stated we ARE signing them we have just made movements to the possibility of signing them thats without Bale thats what am saying mate. I know mattyspur stated it could be a loan for Bale but the loan certainly is not a temporary fix for the eventual bale sale (I say eventual as it will probably happen next year not this year). It is lewis' wanting to push while we are able to but we have all this money coming in from sales, tv rights and sponsors and Lewis so there is alot still to spend

They are owned by Americans, but it isn't a rich Russian oil lord type of deal. The American ownership is looking for profit margins. Similar to how we've viewed the Lewis ownership with us (except possibly a little more so).
I still think they need to make a sale to satisfy those margins as they've broken just around Ben with their signings + selling of Marquinhos.
Personally I think they're hoping an Osvaldo sale can fulfill this, but they could get cornered into selling Lamela.
