Interesting quotes. Confirms Para likes to talk detailed to clubs before the players. Think thats a bit weird?

Might be advantageous in terms of clubs liking to do business with Spurs because we have got about it in a respectful way. Understand the point of the difficulty of dealing with getting a club to agree only for a player to not be interested but I'm guessing Paratici backs him that he can sell the vision, as he did here with Emerson.

maybe that's why he has such good relationship with the clubs and boards (as he doesn't run off to the player first) maybe it's the integrity he shows that allows him to get better deals but I could be completely wrong on that!

Probably, feels like we wasted some time though with our interest in Kounde or Pau Torres e.g.
If I would be in charge I would ask the selling club first if the player I like is for sale, maybe get a first valuation, then make contact with the players agent and get him into your plans. If he is on board go into hard negotiations with the selling club with the player already on your side.
But Paras the expert with experience obviously...

More words in the Marca article...

I was a bit apprehensive about the situation because we kept hearing how he didn't want to leave Barca but that last answer is nice.

When did you realize that the club wanted to sell you?
I thought the club wanted me to stay. I played on Sunday as a starter, the next day I woke up and went to train quietly. There I already began to see that a lot of things were coming out; that Tottenham were talking to Barcelona, that they had almost done it ... I didn't understand anything about what was happening because I didn't know anything. In the afternoon the club called me to go to the Ciudad Deportiva because they wanted to talk to me and there I already found out that they wanted to sell me.

How did they tell you?
I met the leaders of the club. They began to tell me that the club's situation was not good, that it was going through a difficult time and that it was better for them to sell. I repeated to them that my intention was to stay because I had the illusion of playing here and contributing things to Barcelona. I knew that if I was in my best shape I was going to succeed here. I am smart and there came a time when I realized that they were telling me to go yes or yes. They were kicking me out with very good words.

Was there no other option? Didn't you think about refusing?
I have the ambition to play. I know that I am a footballer with a contract and I could say that I stayed, but I am a person who wants to be happy. I do not want to stay in a club that I love, but sad. I knew his thought was not for me to stay, but for me to get out. So I decided to go. I told myself that I was not going to stay here sad.

Have you felt used?
Used is not the word, but I was hurt by the manners. They could have been otherwise. There were better ways to fix things.

Do you think that Barcelona was already thinking of selling you when they signed you?
When I arrived I was sure that Barcelona did not want to sell me, but seeing what happened I am clear that when they signed me they already had the idea of selling me in mind.

How did your family take it when they told you?
They were stunned, as I was when they told me. We had been in Barcelona for a short time, barely 40 days and we were still putting things in their place. I got home and told everyone the truth, what had happened to me and that my decision was to leave. Go to Tottenham and succeed all together. And they supported me.

Does he leave hurt?
Now I am happy because I am totally focused on Tottenham and with the idea of succeeding there. You have a project for me. They have given me the love I deserve and that is why I am going there with great enthusiasm.

I suspect it was pointless talking to the player as he'd have said no I've only been here 29 days don't be ridiculous, Barcelona wouldn't dream of selling me even if I wanted to leave which I don't. I guess the only way was for Barca to lay out the facts about the trouble they're in and say they've managed to get a good option for him cue Fabio to sell him the dream.

Who says he hasn't? Not being cheeky, genuine question.

he was on this boat 13 hours ago. So unless Tottenham has become quite tropical since I was last there. He’s not in the uk.

You can’t just rely on stats to get excited or not. You need to watch the player. What those stats don’t include are the brain farts Aurier has, like stupidly fouling the Leicester player in the box last season which threw the game away for us. There were many mistakes like that.

Aurier was a solid player when “on it and focussed” but he was hugely erratic. If Royal is just a more stable consistent presence he will be a big upgrade.

Interestingly the Athletic explainer says exactly the same thing - about Royal. Stats are interesting but only ever part of the picture, especially when so broad

I’ve caught up a fair bit on Betis highlights and saw Barca’s last game and he doesn’t scream “amazing” so I’m intrigued what some are basing the huge expectations on, but of course I’d love him to be

I’m excited about any new Spurs signing and, as you say, to watch the player in a Spurs shirt.

I don’t think anyone should expect amazing, nothing in his fee or his history suggests that. He’s only 23 after all and he will need to adapt. He’s signed for no doubt the potential that he could become great. Barca obviously saw something in him, and I doubt they would have sold if not for their finances. At the end of the day though if you need to sell to raise funds, a rotation Full back is probably the one place you’d look to do it.

I look forward to seeing him play. I’ve not seen him before so it’s a blank slate and I will make up my own mind. I hope im impressed and not like oh what have we done. Based on Paratici’s new signings so far I am confident

Looks like he's close to Ilha Bela or the beaches around there in Sao Paulo. I imagine the club have allowed him to return to Brazil and enjoy time with his family before joining up as I can imagine it's been a bit of an unsettling moment for him - expecting to stay in Barcelona and then move on real short notice.

I watched a segment on YT of him returning to his favela in SP and he spoke of owing to the community and always giving back, so he seems to be a very humble person.
