If anyone said this is how he will play in 2016, would not have believed it, he hasn't just not progressed from his early promise, his regressed horribly

There were far sloppier passers than him today. Urgency? How do YOU define urgency?! “Stupid flicks” oh dearie dearie me!
It was a patience game yesterday, and if we’d pushed and pressed too much too early they’d have killed us.

I will agree that Rose was worse. I define urgency as moving the ball to a team mate in space, without taking an age allowing defenders to get to him or the player in space. And the patience game as you put it, is made much harder if you keep giving the ball back to the other team.

His lack of awareness and a plan of what to do with the ball is his biggest problem. He isn’t nearly consistent enough in possession. He occasionally does something good with the ball, but most of the time he is too slow in possession and dilly dallies, he is also a really poor passer both long and short. There’s just no consistency to his build up play game, he’s not well rounded at all. His shooting is poor too, rarely hits the target unless he’s 5 yards away from the goal.

Really worrying that Jose classes him as one of our core players. We are doomed.

Think he’s one of those players where the better the side you put him in, the better he plays and looks (like us in 15-17)

Unfortunately we’re playing terribly at the moment so he is looking terrible too

I just don't see it with him, yea the goals stats and the moments of brilliance but I don't think it's enough. I really don't think we can win things with him as our no10. Maybe he needs to play deeper and get back to basics.

I think ideally Jose wants him to be his Lampard in 433. Not a 10, not an 8.

People rag on Dele, but remember Lampard had just moved to Chelsea at his current age, and wasn’t viewed as anywhere near the complete attacking midfielder.

Dele has always shone brightly when Kane is fit n firing. Those two know each other’s game inside out.
Put simply, with Kane out, Dele has to change his game for Son and Lucas.

In fairness to the mods there is an unbelievable amount of crap written in the ITK thread by people who just ignore the rules time and time again regardless of repeated warnings. Even the new one started this morning is already getting littered with no actual ITK given within it. Essentially any discussion (even directly related to ITK comments) needs to be taken to the appropriate player/manager thread and not within the ITK thread. Do as @Gilzeanking says, and never post in the ITK thread and you're fine.

I really don't like the Lampard comparison. Lampard would score prob 5 or 6 goals as season from outside the box alone. He had a great shot on him. Was also a very good long range passer and better short range passer than Alli. In all, just a much better player but maybe without the few highlight reel goals that Dele has.

I don't think Dele will be able to develop his shooting to get on Lampard's level, just seems to be lacking the basic technique to strike the ball well consistently.

I’m not saying he’s an identical player, and the weaknesses you point out are all valid. He needs to improve his passing range and work on passing off his left side. His long range shooting too.

You don’t need identical players to play similar positions in a system. My main point with Lampard was that he was far from the finished article at 23. Has Dele got that same appetite for self-improvement? That’s the $64m question.

Lampard had the basics in football down to a tee, tackle, control, pass, move. Dele doesn't and that's his issue. There is no baseline to work on.

Quite ironic that most of Dele’s biggest critics on here often point to his lack of maturity as being a big problem - but here they are on a Spurs forum crying about being banned from it for a short while.:rolleyes::woot:

Interesting thoughts.

Essentially we have some talented players but getting the blend right is something we have struggled with. I feel the loss of Kyle Walker and Wanyama and Demebele has hit us very hard.

We had 2 wing backs who ran up and down tirelessly and two very physical central midfielders protecting the defence and allowing the attacking players to focus on getting forward.

Without that we look a mess.

Alli has always had his limitations but right now his strengths won't be used sufficiently.

Makes it all the more depressing we didn’t actually bother to replace them properly...:(

Amazing that he’s got well over twice the amount of career goals at the same age then, isn’t it?

His movement and finishing isn't bad at all, that's where his goals came from. Would I bet that he could kick a stationary ball further than the half way line? No.

Yeah, I’ll just accept your blinkered opinion that Lampard was immaculate at 23 and Dele is a turd who can’t kick a ball, instead.

I don’t care about the Lampard comparison. Just Dele being Dele Dilly Dally.
