I think he's not great tbh and we've set the bar so low these days that fans use terms as "solid" and "unflashy" to mask that he's very very average. His crossing is woeful...it barely goes higher than knee height.

What he lacks in ability, however, he more than makes up for in attitude and application. I'd have him as 3rd choice tbh. Bring in Lewis from Norwich and bring through Cirkhin also.

He’d be solid behind an old school left winger, but with Son cutting infield it falls on Ben to provide width and crosses. He lacks the acceleration to get a yard on the opposing fullback to whip balls in, so I’d like to see him try more crosses from deep - providing we can get bodies in the box.

He's been performing his defensive duties quite exceptionally, which is what I think Jose values most in his defensive players.

But he has not necessarily been a great creative outlet and therefore we need to have a midfield that is both creative and progressive with him in the side. Davies defending behind a midfield of Lo Celso, a strong ball-winning DM, and Ndombele should be excellent.

Given the trust Jose has shown with Davies, our current financial circumstances, and the other areas of the squad that need improvement, I can't imagine Ben not being our first choice LB come September.

I sincerely hope you're wrong but fear that you are not.

from champions league final to championship, FML. I mean I like a bit of hyperbole as much as the next footie fan but go give your head a wobble.

We really played well in the CL final didn’t we?
Scousers there for the taking and we never showed up

no we didn’t. Should we do a deal to send Kane, Son and Dele to Cardiff because they were also shit in the final?

what exactly is your point that you’re trying to make?

I was just saying that I don’t think Ben Aurier Winks and Sissoko should start for us next season
Someone then brought up that they played in a CL final perhaps implying because they did we should keep
I then replied that we didn’t play well at all in the said final
Are you saying that we did?

Kane was clearly not fit
Dele hasn’t played well for some time
Son didn’t have a good game
We as a team never showed up as I said
Who knows why
Was it Poch because we didn’t play well for the second half of the season up until Poch got sacked?

So no I don’t think we should get rid of Kane or Son as they are world class and usually play like it but not so much Dele nowadays
Therefore I do think we should get rid of the aforementioned four as they are consistently not up to the standard where we aspire to

So that is the point I’m trying to make

By your tone you obviously disagree
Fine as this is a Forum but having players like them constantly starting for us we won’t manage top four
Maybe you're happy with that?

Big fan of Ben. Very aggressive player and moves the ball on quickly and with purpose. He will always have detractors because he is 'slow' and doesn't dribble, and can appear invisible. But that's in part because he doesn't faff about with the ball. He plays it quickly and gets the team moving up the pitch. Similarly, great anticipation, wins a lot of headers for a fullback and defends aggressively and proactively.

His biggest weakness is being isolated 1v1 and that can be an issue, and something a bit more dynamic would be nice. Getting rid would be suicide, and we would likely just replace him with someone who looks good more than actually being an effective fullback. We do, however, need another left back. Just like we need another right back.

Been here 6 years now and never really been won over by him to be honest. Decent enough player to have in the squad but just don't think he offers enough to be a regular for us at LB. Can get a decent cross in now and again but never felt the attacking side of his game comes particularly naturally to him. As already been mentioned, don't think he is a particularly great one v one defender either but no problem with him as part of the squad.

Situation is kind of made worse by the fact Aurier on the other side has his own issues. I'd like at least one of our fullbacks to have the ability to take on a man, create a yard for himself and open the game up and help the forward players whereas both Davies and Aurier generally rely more on being found in space. Neither have particularly great technical ability on the ball imo.

that’s not what all that you said though is it. You then went one further and said that they were championship players at best.

Yes and I stand by that or maybe at best fringe squad players

I know Sissoko is a French international etc and he’s a tremendous athlete but his control seems to be getting worse
Where he lost the ball against Palace which started the shitshow leading up to their goal was quite frankly embarrassing

I once had great hopes for Winksy, another nice lad, especially after his performance against Real Madrid but he has regressed since
Every time he seems to get the ball when we’re going forward the move stalls and we go backwards but he’s not helped by Aurier who can’t cross properly

But I’m confident in José and if he can find roles for these four then so be it and if they work out and they feature regularly I’ll be delighted to have been proven wrong and will hold my hands up as I’m Spurs and want what’s best for us
Scrambling around 6th spot isn’t it

Davies gives the ball away so often with terrible passes, it does my head in.

He can't run and hardly contributes going forward because his crossing is erratic and he can't get forward enough or take a man on due to his lack of pace.

He constantly stands static with closed body language which means as soon as he gets the ball he instantly passes backwards.

He is an average, back up left back at best and as long as he's a key starter we will struggle to become a top side.

Just looked this up... zero assists in the PL the last 2 years. I've never rated him very highly but how did it get that bad??

He had 6 in 17/18 alone.

Bollocks to this lopsided fullback nonsense, get us a first team LB who is capable of efficiently raiding down the left and opening things up. Davies can be backup.

Whoever we play seem to be able to close him down easily & he either passed it back or the attempted cross invariably hits the defender & goes out for a corner or a throw in, whereas when they attack him they seem to have acres of space to pick out a cross.

Anyone else missed Danny Rose tonight? Fucking hell Davies he creates nothing and the lack of pace and dribble is awful to watch
