Since October without Mousa Dembele starting: 8 games played: 1 win, 5 losses, 2 draws (5 out of 24 points). Over the course of a full season, that would have you dead last in the league in 20th place.
The guy is a top player. Everyone in the squad recognizes it. The manager recognizes it. Most supporters recognize it. He will also miss the first four games of next season and can't play every game due to lingering hip issues.
It's absolutely imperative we buy an experienced CM to rotate in his place next season. My choice has always been Axel WItsel, as he has the ability to play both the holding and box to box roles. His contract is running down, he has mates in the squad, and has lots of international and CL experience.
I think his importance is being vastly over stated. We've played awfully with him in the team before now but as often happens (IMO) sometimes just not being in the side makes you a better player if results aren't good. You could say the same about Alli. Maybe if they'd have been in the side we'd have done better but you never know.
Poch was clear in his post match comments. It was mentality. We should have got the required points against WBA, Southampton and Newcastle regardless of which players we had available............providing they were 'at it' and they weren't.
He's one of the few experienced heads in the squad and a top player. He's obviously important as hell.
We did manage to pummel Man City 4-1 without him though, but that was with Alli deputising instead of Mason or Carroll.
I'd wager we'd have even more points than we do now had he not been suspended.Best start to a season for fifty odd years, seems Tottenham does exist without Dembele?
